Subject: Re: prescriptions
The service is called Safe Dose and is evidently administered through Highland
Park Hospital's "Mature Health" program. I know nothing more about it. This
was the blurb contained within a Highland Park Health and Fitness Center
newsletter I received:
Safe Dose Exhibit
Monday January lOth and Tuesday January llth, Mature Health will be in the
Fitness Center lobby from 9:30 to 11:30 AM and again from 5:30 to 7:30 PM
featuring a new program called Safe Dose. Stop by and see this great program
for yourself or a loved one.

neat idea though packaging would end up driving the price up. Have you
heard of this solution somewhere else? sounds like an innovative solution

Subject: A concem regarding recreational activities for disabled seniors in Buffalo Grove
Daniel, FY2:
A Mrs. Mikell, 215-1492, called and expressed her concerns regarding what she
regards as a lack of recreational activities for disabled seniors in Buffalo
Grove. I did not speak with her myself. She was referred to the Chair of our
Disabilities Commission by State Representative Mathias.

Subject: Re:A concern regarding recreational activities for disabled seniors in Buffalo Grove
Mrs. Michael and I had a nice long conversation about recreation services for disabled seniors in Buffalo
Grove. Her husband suffers from Ataxia, a neurological disability that is degenerative. He has some
control of his motor skills but not a whole lot. He uses a heavy duty walker.
Her concern didn't seem to be that here weren't senior recreation services in Buffalo Grove, but that there
wasn't any way for her to get her husband around without her help (she has to go back to work to help
pay for here health insurance). Pace is inconsistent in being able to provide senrice (buses routes are
said to be full by PACE Staff sometimes even though most of the time the buses are empty when he gets
picked up). I mentioned the taxi service to her as an alternative that might work to her advantage. You
may want to talk to her about that.
About our services...l explained to her that NWSRA(Northwest Special Recreation Association) has
several programs that are"door to door." Transportation to and from the activities are provided for some
of these programs at no charge. (Northwest Special Recreation Association is part of the park district
and provides leisure services to individuals with disabilities). In addition, I also explained to her that
NWSRA will provide aides whenever appropriate for individuals with disabilities who are registered in
park district programs. Also, at no cost to her. In other words, there is no reason for him not to be able to
participate in any park district program. In the meantime, I have offered two complimentary visits to our
Tai Chi program for her husband to"try ouY'something different. Terri Ebner, senior coordinator will catl
her.
I also mentioned to her the park district effort to go to referendum for a community center. This facility
would have a substantial amount of room dedicated for senior programs and activities. She really liked
that idea.
So solutions that have been adddressed:
- Krista Shipman will call Mrs. Michael on NWSRA door to door programs and inclusion services.
-Terri Ebner will call on our programs and services including the complimentary visits
Requests-
-Please pass on the results of this reference to State Representative Matthias and Disabilities
Commissioner Brian Rubin. I know they have had conversations with Mrs. Michael and perhaps they
might want to pursue some sort of action with PACE.
-Please contact Mrs. Michael on the taxi service
