Meeting called to order at 7:15pm
Introductions made all around.
Discussion of the dinner dance/Open House for the weekend of March 7 & 8, 2008
Janet has discussed with the Village Trustees. A dinner dance for 250 people was favored. This
dance would not be a `formal black tie' function, but not a casual dinner either. Invitations with a
cost of approx $50 per person, to be sent to 500 people, for a resulting 250 people or so for the
dinner.
The next day, it was agreed if we can use the Golf Dome, to have an open house for the Village. This
would be a `free' family day event, from noon to 5:00 pm. On display would be various historical
photos, letters, and the slide show from the museum etc. The Military Veterans could set up
informational booths at this event. Free chocolate coins with the buffalo imprinted on them to be
passed out along with other key chains, pens etc. Parking was discussed; a shuttle bus could be
arranged from Willow Stream Park if needed. The parking lot around the Golf Dome is quite large.
Janet also would like to have a `moon bounce' in the parking lot or something similar, for the kids,
and fireworks at night
Janet will check with the Village concerning any special `one time' use needed permits for this event.
April & May Event not yet decided on
June: 50's Car show & sock Hop. We can have a car club bring in the cars for display. Arrange
activities throughout the day with a sock hop in the early evening. Perhaps a jukebox for music or a
dj playing 50's music. Betty Lou suggested we have girls on roller skates and poodle skirts. Hula
hoop contests etc.
July: Arts Commission Art Fair
August: Buffalo Grove Days August 29-September 1, 2008. 50's theme for the entire weekend
Janet would also like to have the BG Symphonic Band/BG Singers do a concert with 50's music
Perhaps a sing along type of show. BG Players (Theatre group) does not want to do `Grease',
unknown reason why. Suggestions were made to contact the three high schools in the area to see if
they would be interested in putting on this show. Other 50's themed plays would be "Do Patent
Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up" "West Side Story" and "Brighton Beach Memoirs". Maybe one of
these choices could be done instead.
Time Capsule: Janet suggests a time capsule be created and buried somewhere near Village Hall.
Local schools could be involved with items to submit. The time capsule from the 25th Anniversary
was found during the renovation of Village Hall a few years ago. It leaked and had to be destroyed.
50th Anniversary Logo: Suggestion was to have the local high school's graphic arts department
submit artwork (the 2006-2007 school year). Or open it to the public for submission of designs.
Craig favors a disclaimer on the application saying "The Committee reserves the right to choose or
not choose any of the Logo submissions". If the choices are really poor, then perhaps a professional
printing company would be contacted.
Light Pole Banners: would use the chosen logo. They could be put up by the Public Works
Department, after the winter holiday banners come down.
Items to sell: Logo blankets, note cards w/Buffalo Grove photos or sketches etc. Cost to make
these items?
Candy: half dollar size coins w/buffalo on them, individually wrapped. To be passed out at various
events over the 6 month period. Long Grove Confectionary? Cost of molds/candy? Would they
donate any portion of the cost and only charge the balance? If this company cannot do it, there are
other manufactors in the Chicago area to contact.
Calendar/History Booklet: Janet wants the calendar to use black and white photos for the 12
months. On the individual dates, items of interest to be listed. Some `tasteful' advertising, perhaps in
the back of the calendar. Research: Debbie at the BG Museum is a helpful choice. Also the library
and past copies of the 10th& 25th anniversary booklets.
The historical material to be gathered will benefit both the calendar and historical booklet. The same
committee for the initial research- will eventually break off to form the two items.
Historical material may also be placed in the Post Office display cases and the BG Museum, during
the Anniversary Celebration Months.
We then chose various committees to work on:
History/Calendar: Carl Genrich, Barbara Heinrich, Betty Lou Manso's daughter, Mary Jo Reid,
Beverly Sussman,
