They are two of the original 164 families of Buffalo Grove. Rhonda Norman and Michelle Shapiro of the Indian Trails Library also joined this committee tonight. Open House/Golf Dome: This will be an open house to residents during Saturday March 8rh & Sunday March 9rh` 2008. Plans are for a historical photo display, videos and a Veteran's information/display of life 50 years ago. Members on this subcommittee include: Mary Jo Reid, Dona Dae (and her mom), Betty Lou Manso, Debra Moritz, Judy Yablosky, Dorothy Avenarius, Lou Ellison, and Michelle Shapiro. Michelle advises 2008 will also be the 50rh anniversary of the Indian Trails Library. She is confident a display can be made for this weekend, and they plan to have a float in the BG Day's parade in September 2008. Mary Jo remembers when the library was above the cheese factory and the basement had the first jail! Carl showed a plaque &photo of himself from 1982 when he was Grand Marshal of the parade. These can be used in the historical display of the Village. Judy requests everyone to ask around for photos, videos etc that can be used that weekend, Dona Dae volunteered she has videos of the parades that can be shared. March 7, 2008 Dinner: Beverly & Judy and their subcommittee have met with Chris at the Arboretum. They developed a menu of 3 combinations for the dinner (chicken/fish, chicken/beef, beef/fish); dinner will include appetizer and dessert. Tax and tip included for $47.50 per person (colored table linens also included). The Arboretum needs a $1,000 deposit to hold the room and prices by October 10, 2006. Janet will arrange for the Village to give the deposit. All guests will be charged for the dinner. Chris also suggests Greg will close the restaurant and we can either use it for a cocktail area or the committee members can eat there. To be determined! Additional costs we can have are $15 per bottle of wine at each table. Rich suggested we try for a sponsor for the bar so there will be minimum or no costs to the guests for the alcoholic drinks. Janet would prefer not to use sponsors for the alcohol and keep it a cash bar. Arboretum will donate $5,375 to the committee towards this dinner and wants to be named as a sponsor in our calendar/historical booklet. Janet agreed. Calendar/Historical Book: Beverly reports they are actively working on it. Files have been created for various information. Joanne asks for information to be e-mailed to her at: iri212gcomcast.net. She has some information from School District 21. The problem is no one at the schools has the time to go thru backrooms or stored information. The schools don't have a `PR' person any more. Mary Jo mentioned she was on the school board at one time; she will check the boxes in her garage and may have some useful information to share. Bruce says one of the members of his congregation has an original phone directory - copy was given to Janet. Mary Jo suggests Al Frank, one of the first developers may be able to give a speech at the dinner? Dona will try to find him. Barb Heinrich says the residents in Lake County sent their children to Lake Zurich High School. The Cook County residents went to Wheeling High School. The first elementary school was Alcott in 1961, and then Kilmer opened a few years later. They are also collecting information on the 18 churches and synagogues. Barb Heinrich has the info for Beth Am and St Mary's. Each religious organization should have some material for us to use. Car Show/Sock Hop: Paulette reports it is too soon for planning. She has sent 2 letters to car dealers re: sponsorship but no response to date. Suggestion made for a juke box with music of the 50's and 60's rather than a DJ. We can rent a juke box or maybe someone has one we can borrow for the evening. Subcommittee members are: Betty Lou, Arlene, Rhonda, Judy & Judith, Bruce. Band & BG Singers: Jan has purchased - NO Village funds used :o) - a 4 CD set of music from 1956, 1957, 1958 1959. She has given this to Howard Green for inspiration in creating a music program for Sunday, August 3, 2008. Jan has also spoken w/Lindsay at the Park District. They will advise if the play "Grease' can be performed in 2008 as part of our celebration. Time Capsule: Craig reports he has information on the various types of containers than can be used for the capsule burial. He has ideas of what to put in it: newspapers, vehicle sticker, copies of the Village census reports, plat of surveys, license plate for the Fire Dept's 25rh anniversary etc. He would like more ideas and the collection of these items to begin. Where will be burying the capsule? Jan reports the Buffalo that used to be in front of the Park District building has now been moved in front of Village Hall. Perhaps burying the capsule under the Buffalo would be appropriate. DeAnn advises the Trustees will let us choose the material to be put in the time capsule and should be favorable to planting it where we suggest. Light Pole Banners: Judy has contacted a company to make them, but also knows the Village purchased a machine to make them? Will public works make these anniversary banners? Paulette will contact Dave at Public Works and advise. Souvenirs: no report Candy: no report Note Cards: Jennie is not here; she was planning to work with the seniors at the senior center re: creating these cards. Logo: Beverly reports all three high schools are participating w/the graphic arts and art departments. They have been given guidelines including: hand-drawn or computer design, 5x7 size, black lettering, on the back side the name of the artist and their school. They have also been advised the Committee may have to modify the design to work on the vehicle stickers. Deadline is 10/13/06. Beverly, Craig, Jennie and Jan will choose the best and at our next meeting we should see the top 3-5 designs? Vehicle stickers are ordered in December for purchase in the spring. Sponsorship: Rich, Mike and Bruce report after the logo is designed, they plan to send out letters to the community businesses and religious organizations. They are looking for sponsors of various events (such as ice cream or hot dogs at the golf dome March 8-9, 2008) or sponsors of bigger events. The need to determine what price tag will sponsor what item. Next Meeting at Village Grill 7:00 P.M., November 9, 2006 Meeting adjourned at 8:25 P.M. Paulette Greenberg
