Debra Rybarczyk
New Member introduced tonight: Debra Rybarczyk. Debra's parents were one of the original
164 families in Buffalo Grove, and her dad was a volunteer policeman for the Village.
March 7, 2008 Dinner Event: Judy Y. reminded Janet the deposit has to be submitted to the
Arboretum if not already done. No new information to report on the dinner.
Open House Committee: Mike says we need to pick one not two days for the displays etc.
Two days won't work with the Park District and the Golf Dome. The subcommittee has not yet
met- too soon for planning.
Logo: Logo has been chosen. We had no submissions from Wheeling High School, one from
Stevenson and several from Buffalo Grove High Schools, and a submission from Mike Terson (a
BGHS graduate!). The Village Board chose the design submitted by Mike Terson. It has the
entrance of Village Hall. Mike noted he wants to do a little tweaking of it before the design is
sent to press for the 2007-08 vehicle stickers. This logo will also go onto the 50rh anniversary
stationery which can now be produced.
The other submitted designs may be incorporated onto the Calendar with a credit to the student.
Historical Booklet: Jane Berman has been recruited to help. She has found early community
information for the Village History. Committee is having a problem with the various school
districts in securing historical information. They need a background of how Buffalo Grove
students attended Wheeling High School until Buffalo Grove opened in the 1970's, as well as the
other schools attended by BG residents before Stevenson opened. They are also looking for class
photos (perhaps of village officials who attended the schools?), info from yearbooks, activities,
parades etc. Indian Trails library has Wheeling & Buffalo Grove year books. It was agreed we
only need 3-4 paragraphs for each school district for the historical book.
Calendar: dates of interest from the Park District are needed, per the subcommittee.
50-60's Car Show: Jane Olson's husband, Bob, has been in contact with Paulette. He is a
"muscle car" buff and has offered to help do background work. He suggested we try and find Mr.
Norm's Dodge which once was in Buffalo Grove. They have tracked him to a Highland Park and
Florida address. Perhaps he or his sons will help sponsor this event.
Band & Singer Concert: No report
Play: No report
Historical Displays: No report
Time Capsule: Craig suggests we try and partner up with the Pioneer Press and see if they will
sponsor this and give us free advertising in return. It would benefit the Committee. Craig also
suggests we have a drop box in Village Hall for submissions to be placed in the Time Capsule.
This could be advertised through the Village Newsletters and the Newspapers. The Committee
would give guidelines for the size of submissions. It was acknowledged all submissions may not
be used - Committee will decide. The cost of purchase and burying the Time Capsule was
discussed.
License Plates: no report
Light Pole Banner: Paulette has contacted Dave at Public Works. He is pretty sure they can
make these, but has to get back to the Committee.
Blankets: Janet suggests the Logo and some of the submissions could be used on the blanket.
Joan has no report.
Buffalo Grove Days: no report - too soon.
Note Cards: Jennie will be working with the seniors at the Senior Center to produce them.
Chocolate: no report
Veteran Display: Lou said his subcommittee has contacted the VFW group in Wheeling for
information. The Jewish War Veteran Post was started only 7 years ago. This is the only VFW
post currently in Buffalo Grove. He has also contacted the Korean War vets. Bruce suggested
Lou contact the Horcher brothers in Wheeling, as they tend the local cemetery and may have lots
of background info we could use
Jennie asked how to involve the various churches & synagogues in the 50th Anniversary events.
Jan reminded everyone she promotes this Committee at board meetings and the Village
Newsletters that are sent to all households. She has spoken at Chamber Events and the recent
Civics Forum. There are plenty of opportunities for people and organizations to participate.
Sponsorship: Mike is currently drafting a letter to be sent to local businesses and organizations
briefly outlining the various events to be held during the 50rh Anniversary period. Now that the
Logo has been decided, once the stationery is created, this letter can go out early in 2007. A
follow up letter will be sent later requesting donations/sponsorships.
Next meeting: Thursday, February 1, 2007 at the Clubhouse restaurant.
Janet reminds all subcommittees they need to meet in between these meetings and make
decisions/plans to be brought before the entire Committee. She suggests each subcommittee form
a time line to complete projects and allow for press time, etc.
Meeting adjourned 8.15 pm
