March 7th Dinner: No report. (The deposit was submitted to the Arboretum)
Open House March 8-9`h: Janet has decided we will be using the Village Campus. We will put up
1-2 tents for the hot dogs/ ice cream etc. Tents will be heated. Tables and chairs will also be
ordered. She plans to have various fire trucks, police cars, etc. in the surrounding parking lots on
display for residents to see. Outside will also have a moonwalk or similar apparatus for the kids.
The historical displays will be in the Council Chambers. We will need sponsors for the food, so
hopefully free to the residents or for very low cost(as in 1958)?
Logo: Janet brought the new Logo already imprinted on the vehicle stickers. It is very colorful
and has gone on sale for the 2007-2008 sticker season.
Letterhead paper can now be created using this Logo. Janet prefers `our own' letterhead rather
than the Village letterhead w/logo added.
Copy of the logo will be sent to Paulette for the Long Grove Confectionary to use to create the
chocolate coins. We will be giving away these coins in March and other events.
Historical Booklet: Bev reports her committee is actively completing this task. They have a
deadline of August 2007 to be ready for typesetting &printing.
Debra reports the calendar is well underway but could use help on completing info for more dates.
Ideas included: local schools and when they won various championships; religious organizations -
when the buildings were erected; when the police & fire department buildings were built. Janet
directed Debra to contact Carol in building & zoning office - she has info and photos that can be
used in the calendar. Mike suggested along with the 11 pages of black and white photos, we end
with a color photo of the Logo. Janet wants entire calendar in black &white.
There will be small `tasteful' advertising on the back page.
A suggestion was made to include aerial photo of the Village 50 years ago and today, for the
calendar.
Janet brought up an article in the local paper last week. A resident suggested "50 great people in
Buffalo Grove". Janet nixed that idea- we may inadvertently overlook someone and cause hard
feelings, and we do not have the manpower to undertake that large a task.
60's Sock hop and Car show: Paulette reports she has secured our first sponsor - Race Line
Motor works of Hawthorne. This company is similar to Build a Bear but with racecars. They
will do something for the kids during the day and the adult kids maybe at night. More to come.
It is too soon to book someone like Dick Biondi.
Band Concert: No report. Janet has discussed with Howard Green and Linda Rosen. They were
enthusiastic - including ideas with audience participation.
Park District: Janet has spoken with Lindsay at the Park District to see if they can get the rights
to use "Grease". It is more involved than Janet realized to put on this show.
Historical display: We will not be able to use the post office display cases for any community
events. The United States Post Office has decided the cases are for post office materials only. At
the Raupp Museum, can have displays &we can encourage people to go there;perhaps ask the
schools to play field trips there. Scout troops earn badges for learning about the history of
Buffalo Grove? Displays should also definitely be put in Village Hall lobby—Jane said that
people coming into Village Hall always take the time to look at displays.
Time Capsule: Craig sent a report- he has contacted the Countryside Newspapers. They would
like to be involved. A time capsule size of about 24"x 24", could probably be buried under the
flag poles at Village Hall.
License Plates, note cards, blankets: too soon for report
Veteran's Display: Lou is working on it.
Sponsorship: Rich has not sent out letters yet. Janet reminded him we need sponsors for the
back of the calendar too.
BG Days: Paulette reports music of the 1950's and 1960's will be featured for the festival. They
already have some ideas for walk around characters too (Lucy, Desi etc).
Future Agenda: Janet reminded members to contact committee members that are not present
tonight. It is important for a representative from each committee to attend general meetings. If
there is an instance where no one from a committee is able to attend, it is important that there be a
report on committee progress, either by e-mail (preferred) or telephone.
The next general committee meeting will be on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at 7:00 P.M. at the
Club House.
Meeting adjourned at 8.25 P.M.
