Meeting called to order at 7:15 P.M.
In Attendance:
Janet Sirabian Jane Olson Mike Terson
Beverly Bloom Rhonda Norman Nancy Winter
Paulette Greenberg Bruce Peters Judy Yablosky
Rich Heinrich Debbie Rybarczyk Michelle Shapiro
Barbara Herman Joan Karge Judith Siria
Ernie Karge Beverly Sussman Carol Lieber
March 7th Dinner:
Judy explained the options of the different types of invitations that can be used.
Use Invitation printing company
Use in house printing
Use a printer such as AIM Printers
A preliminary list of invitees needs to be compiled. The list will most likely be increased as the
event gets closer. Dinner committee will have a side meeting next week.
Note cards:
Janet has cancelled the idea of having the note cards designed by seniors because it was becoming
too complicated to make the idea work. Instead, everyone agreed we should use the 50th
Anniversary Logo, and put it on card stock paper in a cream or ivory color. We can bundle them
for packages of 6 for $3.00. We can use extra cards as thank your after various events next year
too.
Bob Heer, a police officer, made a video for Bill Balling's retirement party. Janet plans to contact
him about creating a video to be shown at the dinner dance.
Open House/Block Party:
A lengthy discussion was had on this subject. The biggest concern is the weather in early March.
This year we had 70's and next year we could have 2' of snow. Even with a large tent, would
residents come out? Would they want ice cream in the cold? Would people come and sit in the
tent even if we have it heated?
Paulette will get costs of the tent(40x60'- beer tent size) with and without heat.
Suggestion was made to move this open house to the BG High School field house. Better
suggestion, made by Rich and Mike, was to change this open house to a different month. Better
weather, better attendance.
Mike stated he didn't want all the work to put this together to be a bust due to crummy weather
that weekend. Janet said she'd accept responsibility if event is a bust.
Further discussed - we don't want any of the planned events to be low attendance vs. costs
involved.
Janet agreed to defer this issue until our next meeting.
Barbara suggested a different idea: A giant birthday cake in Village Hall with ice cream that
Saturday, March 8rh. Have an open house 1:30-3:30 P.M. Some of the planned displays could be
up for viewing. This received a favorable response from nearly all the committee members.
Logo: COMPLETED!
History Book & Calendar:
Debbie reports the calendar is coming along. Discussed advertising in the calendar.
The history book is nearly done and they are choosing photos next week for inclusion, per
Beverly.
Sock Hop/50's Car Show:
No report. Paulette advises after Buffalo Grove Days, her committee will meet and begin to put
this all together.
Symphonic Band & BG Singers:
Barbara reported the concert will be August 3, 2008 at the Stevenson High School. Contract
needs to be signed by the Village. She was not sure of the fees involved. This is a Sunday
afternoon, and the BG Arts Commission has agreed to staff this event that day.
The Buffalo Grove Bank & Trust has offered $1,000 to sponsor this event!
Sponsorships/Fund Raising:
Rich is confident we will get large dollars in sponsorship for next year. He does not feel this will
impact the donations local businesses do for Buffalo Grove Days. Janet admitted there is
concern, as local businesses only have so much money to plan for charity/community projects.
Rhonda suggested the committee not contact any BG Days Sponsors; we can secure the current
list from the Chamber.
Rich noted that he wants to contact the larger corporations, not the small businesses.
No letters have gone out yet.
Historical Display:
No report
GREASE
Janet has spoken to Lindsay at the Park District. Official selection for next year's play not yet
decided. May be a problem securing the rights if the Broadway company of Grease is touring next
year. Park District should know by the end of May what the selection will be.
Library:
Indian Trails Library will also have its 50rh anniversary next year. They are offering use of the
display cases at the library. They will also put a display on at Village Hall. They will also be part
of the Open House displays.
Time Capsule:
No report.
Commemorative License Plates:
Ernie reports he is working on sending letters to those residents who purchased the Fire
Department anniversary plates last year. If a certain plate number is desired, there is a deadline.
Banners:
Mike has spoken to Ghida. Brett in public works should be able to make them with equipment
the Village owns.
Chocolate:
A sample is not back from Long Grove Confectionery for a quote.
Odds & Ends:
All agreed to dispose of the lapel pin and blanket ideas. Everyone like the keychain with the logo.
Janet will pursue this for costs etc.
NEXT MEETING:
THURSDAY, JLTNE 21, 2007 AT THE VILLAGE BAR & GRILL AT 7:00 P.M.
Meeting adjourned at 8.20 P.M.
