Welcome to new member Megan Hatch.
Officer Bob Heer attended the meeting; He showed us a video he made for Bill Balling's
retirement party. He asks for funny stories or happenings to include in a video he will make for
the Dinner on March 8rh. This will be the entertainment for the banquet. We will also run the video
at the Open House in April.
Dinner: Barbara Herman is working on addresses for the list of invitees for the dinner. Judy
reports they are finishing up the invitations. A small gift bag for each invitee. The 50rh key chains
already ordered, will be one of the items. Also will include the history booklet, calendar and the
chocolate coin candy.
Janet brought in a bottle of`Buffalo Grove Wine" label says `Buffalo Grove Winery". A friend of
Janet's told her of this winery in California that makes 4 different types of wine and uses `your'
label. Janet is thinking of ordering this wine for the Dinner.
Janet also suggested maybe renting a juke box loaded with 50's music for background music.
Open House: Set for Saturday & Sunday March 9 & 10. Hours 1-4pm.
Discussion: will village employees be involved? A Happy Birthday Scroll to be signed by the
guests, for inclucusion in the time capsule. We can sell the 50rh key chains. A small birthday cake
in council chambers to be served.
Vernon Area Library has offered a photo wall display/montage
April 27rh Sunday: Block party: suggestion was a 1 day event 11-5pm. Museum displays, tent in
public works parking lot? Fire truck/police car displays. Indian Trail Library will bring their book
mobile.
To be discussed: shuttle bus from Fed ex parking lot to village campus? Porta potties to be
rented? Maintenance company to be hired?
Park District has a comical buffalo costume someone can wear. Janet says the `buffalo head' has
been found and could be displayed.
Mary Jo says her committee is gearing up in September to narrow down what is to be displayed
etc.
Logo: done
History Booklet: Debra reports they are almost ready for the graphic designer to help put it all
together. They still need photos
Calendar: they also need more photos, nearly ready for the printer.
Band/Singer Concert: Barbara reports this will be at Stevenson High School, August 3d 2008
Play: the park district has chosen `Music Man' there are many more parts in this play which is
based in the mid 1950's. Park district claims `Grease' doesn't fit the parameters of a family show.
Time Capsule: Time capsule will be 16"x 16"x 30". We bill bury it on Monday of Buffalo Grove
Days 2008. Pioneer Press has agreed to 3 full page ads. They also want exclusive interviews and
rights in a certain time period before burial of time capsule.
Daily Herald has also contacted Craig. They want to make a special insert for next June. Janet
suggests we have the village atty review before agreeing to the `demands' of the newspapers.
License Plates: Ernie reports all paperwork has been submitted to the State. People who
purchased the fire dept special plates last year will have first choice on the purchase and number
for the 50rh Anniversary plates. Janet will include info in the next village newsletter about
purchasing these specialty plates.
BG Days: no report
Light Post Banner: Judy has emailed art work to a Company with revisions. She brought us a
mini copy to see. No quote for the costs yet.
Key chains: Joan says they have been ordered. 1000 should be ready soon. We will try to sell at
BG Days 2007.
Note cards: they are being printed and also may be available to sell at BG Days 2007
Shirts: Joan explained embroidered shirts —the logo is too detailed to do. She brought in a shirt
with a sample of a new technique similar to silk screen painting. Mike suggests a lost costly shirt
than the `land's end' brand which will bring down the cost. Janet says she will have the village pay
the set up fee and each shirt will then cost each committee person less than $17. Decided to table
the embroidery discussion and she will get more information for next meeting.
Garden Club: no report
Chocolate: no report
Veterans: no report
Sponsors: Rich asks how involved the Trustees are going to be. DeAnn will discuss with fellow
trustees. Sponsorship letters have not gone out. Calendar and history book nearly done and Janet
had envisioned we would have ads in the back of these booklets.
Next meeting Thursday September 6th
Meeting adjourned at 8.35pm
