Calendar is ready to go to press! Janet says lots of important dates have been noted in addition to
historical BG information. The cover will be glossy paper but not the inside pages.
Dinner: Judy reports preliminary invitation list is nearly done. They are tweaking the final names
and addresses. 84 invitees so far, including President Bush, Governor Blagovich etc. Next on
list to be invited will be Village Commissioners and our committee members. Then any remaining
seats will be open to the public.
Barb has contacted several florists in the area for donation of centerpieces.
A rental jukebox has not yet been found.
Open House 3/8-9/08: Mary Jo reports she has been in contact with the two libraries, Village hall
and Carmen at the golf course. Vernon Area Library has a 3 way display case. Display cases in all
these places will be utilized with items collected. Mary Jo would like a directory made for the
residents of where all the displays will be. We will also put some of this material on display
during Buffalo Grove Days.
Logo: done
History Booklet: Joanne met with Evan Hill the designer. Should be ready to go in December.
Extras will be available at Village Hall for $2 each.
Car Show/Sock Hop: Paulette reports her committee recently met. They agreed to have some
food vendors in the daytime and during the dance. These will be for-profit and some non-profits
groups that cannot get into the Food Tent during BG Days. The NW Chicago land car club will
handle the cars/owners that are participating. Non club members will be able to participate but
will have to pay the same $15 fee. Prizes will be awarded, voted by the guests. Cars will be
parked around Village Hall and on Raupp. Up to 75 cars will be displayed.
The car club is bringing a DJ to play approx from 10.30am to 3pm. Cars will be here between
Sam and show will be over approx 3.30pm
Our costs: trophies, the liability insurance fee and advertising, Car club keeps the $15 fee as their
consultant/management fee. (Previous discussion with Janet and Paulette feels this is the most
cost efficient way to go.)
During the Sock Hop, committee will have hula hoop contest, fashion show etc. A 40'x60' tent
will be erected in Public Works parking lot in a north/south direction, half of the parking lot will
be covered, the balance is open for dancing, We will need to rent tables/chairs, a small stage,
maintenance clean up, portta potties. Police will also be contacted to assist traffic control.
More info will be presented to the committee at future meetings.
Paulette found a buffalo toy, a bit larger than a beanie baby to sell at events. She contacted the
company with the intention we could sell this at one or several of our events as a fund raiser. Our
cost will be $3 each(plus freight)
Committee agreed and Paulette will contact salesman to order.
Concert: Barb reports Howard Green has the financial approval from the Village to order some
sheet music for the concert. A March will be done in honor of the Village and the 50rh anniversary.
Park District is handling the musical `Music Man' no other information.
Time Capsule: Craig is not here. Sue & Janet looked outside today for a place to bury the time
capsule. The garden club will plant some type of flowers. Mike says the Park District will
arrange to purchase a 500 lb boulder and a bronze plaque to be placed on it.
Janet says the very last Village Sticker will be placed into the time capsule!
Jack Schmeer from the park district is putting together a CD with interviews of various people in
the village, music and photos. This CD will be given to each person at the dinner win addition to a
key chain, history book and calendar.
Mary Jo suggests using parchment paper with a copy of the Village Seal to be used as a give away
or put in the time capsule.
License Plates: applications are now available. Ernie needs all orders by the end of May. Numbers
will be given out randomly. Goal is to sell 300-500 of these specialty plates. Drivers can only
display them from Mid July to Mid September. (60 days)
Light Pole Banners: Judy checked with three different companies. Cheapest one is $138 each.
Public Works says they cannot make the banners as good as the outside companies.
Original order was for 40. But we will reduce order to 30 and place on every 3 pole near Village
Hall.
Key Chains are on sale at Village Hall. $6 each sales are slow but should get better.
Note cards: also on sale at Village Hall Ernie suggests a photo of the note cards, keychain and
license plate be put in next village news letter to advertise these items.
BG Days: no report, that committee does not meet until February 2008
Chocolate: no report
Wine: Buffalo Grove"wine will be at the dinner. It is coming from California, via a friend of
Janet's. Illinois laws are changing concerning shipping of the wine/ amount per shipment etc.
(They did check with the Long Grove winery, but decided against it.)
Veteran's Display: BG Veteran's program will be this weekend at BG High School and a
ceremony this weekend with Congressman Mark Kirk giving an award to Alan Lynch.
Mike says free ice cream will be passed out afterwards
Veteran's Park: park district is selling a brick for $100 or $150 to personalize the brick to be
placed at this park.
Sponsorship: No report. (Very little money has been raised for the calendar and now it is too late
for inclusion as the calendar is going to press soon, reports Janet)
Shirts: Joan brought in a prototype. $20 per shirt-optional to purchase. Committee members are
not required to buy one. Village will pay the set up fees and shipping.
This will be a polo shirt w. collar. Royal or Navy blue seemed to agree with everyone,
Joan will bring color choices and order forms to next meeting.
Next meeting: December 13'h 7pm at Village Grill.
