Bob Heer explained the workings of the video he is creating to be shown at the March dinner. Bob will also emcee the event. There will be no long speeches - 2 minutes each for Jan/Elliott/Bill Brimm—no introductions of dignitaries because most people are dignitaries. Video will be shown after dinner. Bob took group shots of the Committee members to be incorporated into the video. March 7th Dinner: Invitations have all been sent out by Judy & Bev/Jan addressed the envelopes. Menu has been chosen: filet& salmon. Several centerpieces have been donated. Colors are pink &black for the table linens. Part of the centerpieces will be a cardboard '57 Chevy with 50's candy inside (candy lips, dots etc.), along with the votive candles on the mirror. Each invitee will get a gift bag with a key chain, history book, note cards & chocolates. Professional photographer will be there for photos. Jan found a jukebox - the one Fonzie used to hit on Happy Days - it will be loaded with 45's. Discussion of name tags for guests. The scroll for the time capsule will be there for signatures. March 8th & 9th Open House: Nancy met with Debbie from the museum and they are working on a display for Village Hall lobby with a school related theme. Other displays will have buffalos and housing information. Displays will change every few weeks. Vernon Area Library is having a traveling display and Indian Trails Library is also doing displays at the library. Committee now needs help to pull the open house together. Paulette reports Eli Cheese cakes is donating a few cakes or slices, but not a large amount. Order a Birthday Cake from local bakery? Jan agrees the generic plates & forks at Sam's club will work, plus 50M Anniversary napkins from a party store. Not clear who will make the purchases. April 27Ih Open House: Will not have the jukebox there because it would be too hard to keep control over it. CD player w/50's music could be used. Paulette met with Rick & Dave at Public Works - suggested a 40'x60' tent(beer tent size) run from north/south across parking lot in Public Works. Displays in the tent- free hot dogs, drinks and ice cream -unknown if anyone has contacted vendors for this. Rick suggested a few porta potties (Jan says we should not need many, as people probably won't be there for more than an hour). Shuttle bus service by Public Works employee? Public Works employees for clean up maintenance? Rick will check w/Bill Brimm concerning the PW budget for this event. Paulette also met w/Sgt. Millett. Police Department can bring out the remote control police car, and if an employee will wear the McGruff costume, that can be a walk-around. We may need crossing guard assistance, as the Little League baseball season kicks off that weekend, at the parks on the south side of Lake Cook Road. History Booklet: Almost finished - running over 68 pages - costs will be a bit more. Joanne says it looks very nice and should be completed very soon, Calendar: Done - many compliments have come in to Village Hall. Car Show/Sock Hop: Jan says maybe no beer/wine as logistics is a problem. Paulette said St Mary's men's club has the license and certification - Adam Moodhe was checking into this. Discussed free pop/water at night in lieu of alcohol - who will man this station? Who will purchase the pop, ice, obtain cooler etc? Paulette has already been in contact w/2 teen groups: one for daytime shift and the other for evening to sell water &pop —discussion as to whether or not this is good idea. These groups would handle obtaining the cooler, ice, drinks, etc. - fundraiser for each group. Paulette also has on board a popcorn guy, hot dog guy, ice cream guy - pizza will be for evening. Also working on a Dunkin Donuts for the early morning car show people. As previously discussed, Chicagoland Classic Car Club needs $1,500 check for the trophies, insurance and DJ(music from approx 10.30 A.M. - 2.30 P.M.- core hours). Judy's husband designed the flyer, and with minor tweaking, we can copy and use for newspaper ads and other publicity. Anyone can enter the car show by paying a $15 car fee. The car club will handle all doings with the car show. We will have spectator voting as well as judges voting - car awards around 3:00 P.M. - cars will be gone by 4:30 P.M. Dick Biondi will be on stage from 7:00-10:00 P.M., then possibly karaoke or a small bar band until midnight. Rick & Dave at Public Works suggest we order the 60'x160' (food tent size) tent- comes with lights - can be put up in one day, then the power source will be placed at one end of the tent for the food vendors and entertainment. Tables and chairs will be in another part, with empty space for the dancing and hula hoop games etc. Hiring Carlos's company will be cheaper than Public Works employees for that entire day. Need shuttle bus drivers —maybe PW employees? Rick will have 12 or so porta potties + 2 handicap +wash stations. Rick will check w/Bill Brimm about the budget. Band Concert/Ice Cream Social: No report. Park District Musical: The Music Man at Stevenson High School weekends of July 18-20 and July 25-27. "It will be spectacular"per Mike. Time Capsule: Along with the signed scroll, we will place a key chain, calendar, history book, newspaper of 3-7-08, etc. Craig has contacted 21 middle schools and Junior high schools in the area for contributions to the time capsule. Buffalo Grove High School newspaper editor is enthused about this project and is writing some sort of editorial, per Craig. Jean Grupe of Pioneer Press advises the newspaper is making up a special insert for the March 6th edition of the Countryside - she needs all articles by February 15rh. Material should be sent to Jane Olson and she will forward to Jean. License Plates: 44 sold so far (456 to go!) - info on ordering the plates in the next village newsletter. Garden Club: No report. Banners: They are ordered and will be delivered to Public Works soon. They will be put up on the light poles ASAP, and remain up all year.
