2001-01-02 - Board of Fire and Police Commissioners - Minutes Board or Commission: ❑ Fire& Police commission Document Type: ❑A e g nda 0 Minutes Meeting ate: 01/02/2001 Type of Meeting: ❑ Regular Meeting Fire and Police Commission Regular Meeting Tuesday, January 2, 2001 The meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm in Police Headquarters. Present at the meeting were Chairman Walser, Commissioners Anderson, Jackson, Kahn and Karge. Also present for the meeting was Village Liaison Malinowski. A motion to approve the amended minutes of the Special November 20, 2000 meeting was made. Amendment consisted of the striking of paragraphs 1 and 3 New Business continued section of the minutes. With 5 Ayes, 0 Nays the motion carried. A motion to approve the minutes of the December 5, 2000 meeting was made. With 5 Ayes, 0 Nays the motion carried. Chairman's Resort: Chairman Walser reported that Deputy Chief Voigt retired on December 31, 2000. This retirement creates a vacancy for Deputy Chief. Chairman Walser reported that Deputy Chief Aradi is the finalist for the Chief of Police position in Largo, Florida. It is anticipated that Deputy Chief Arati will be offered the Chiefs position in Largo within 30 to 60 days. As a result a vacancy will exist for the Deputy Chiefs position. Chairman Walser provided the preliminary 2001-testing schedule for police officer. He asked that each Commissioner review the schedule and notify him of any scheduling conflicts. He further asked that Commissioner Kahn look for alternate sources for the physical agility examination. Commissioner's Reports: None Old Business: Chairman Walser provided proposed language to be added to both the Police and Fire Department Rules and Regulations regarding extending probation for time missed during that same period. A motion to approve the proposed addition to Chapter III, Section 23, was made by Mr. Kahn. With 5 Ayes, 0 Nays the motion carried. The addition will be entered into the Rules and Regulations. A motion to approve the proposed addition to Chapter IV, Section 6, was made by Mr. Anderson. With 5 Ayes, 0 Nays the motion carried. The addition will be entered into the Rules and Regulations. New Business• Mr. Malinowski advised that the Commission's 2000 annual report needed to be drafted for presentation to the Village President and Trustees. Chairman Walser presented a request from Police Chief McCann that the Commission consider and recommend for promotion Officers Corrigan and Nugent to the rank of Sergeant. These promotions would be needed due to vacancies created by the loss of the two Deputy Chiefs, and promotions made elsewhere within the department to fill Deputy Chief vacancies. Chairman Walser noted that all Commissioners had the opportunity to review the background file on police officer candidate Andrea Wiggins. A motion was made to go into Executive Session for reasons of personnel. With 5 Ayes, 0 Nays the motion carried. Executive Session The Commission went into Executive Session at 7:46 PM. The Commission came out of Executive Session at 8:00 PM. New Business (continued) A motion was made to promote Officer Corrigan to the rank of Sergeant. With 5 Ayes, 0 Nays the motion carried. A motion was made to promote Officer Nuget to the rank of Sergeant contingent on an opening being available. With 5 Ayes, 0 Nays the motion carried. A motion was made to make a conditional offer of employment to Andrea Wiggens. With 5 Ayes, 0 Nays the motion carried. Moved and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:05 PM. Motion carried.
