2002-03-05 - Board of Fire and Police Commissioners - Minutes Board orCommission: ❑ Fire& Police commission Document Type: 0 A e g nda 0 Minutes Meeting ate: 03/05/2002 Type of Meeting: ❑ Regular Meeting VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS Regular Meeting Tuesday, March 5, 2002 The meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm in Police Headquarters. Present at the meeting were Chairman Walser, Commissioners Anderson, Jackson, Karge and Rubin. Also present for the meeting were Deputy Police Chief Balinski, Deputy Fire Chief Sashko and Village Liaison Malinowski. A motion to approve the minutes of the February 5, 2002 was made by Commissioner Karge and seconded by Commissioner Jackson. 5 Ayes 0 Nays the motion carried. A motion to approve the Special Meeting of February 9, 2002 was made by Commissioner Karge and seconded by Commissioner Jackson. 5 ayes and 0 Nays the motion carried. Chairman's Report Mr.Walser reported that a letter was written and submitted on behalf of the Board regarding HB 1689. A letter was written to Firefighter Gilleran regarding the findings of the Board's Special Meeting of February 9, 2002. Mr. Walser also noted that the promotional examination for police sergeant would begin in Fall of 2002. Commissioner's Reports None Old Business It was stated the Final Eligible Register for the position of Fire Lieutenant had been posted. A motion was made by Commissioner Anderson and seconded by Commissioner Jackson to approve the Firefighter/Paramedic recruit examination schedule. 5 Ayes 0 Nays the motion carried. An update was provided regarding the promotional process for employees on approved leave. The issue will be finalized in the April 2002 Regular Meeting. Deputy Chief Sashko stated that after the retirement of Chief Allenspach there might exist a need to fill-2- firefighter positions. The current list of eligible candidates is quickly being exhausted. Further updates will be provided at the April 2002 Regular Meeting. Chairman Walser and Deputy Chief Sashko provided an update of HB 1689. The bill's current status is that it sits in the State Senate pending further action. New Business A discussion took place regarding the Open Meetings Act as it relates to the agenda for the regular meetings. The Secretary was given the responsibility to ensure semi-annual reports regarding Executive Session are provided to the Village Clerk. Deputy Chief Sashko updated the Board regarding the bargaining positions that could be taken regarding promotional issues. Chairman Walser reminded the Board that there would be a community service reception for recognition of residents serving on various Boards and Commission. Chairman Walser congratulated Commissioners Anderson and Karge for their ten years of service. The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners adjourned their monthly meeting at 8:23 pm.
