BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
Regular Meeting
April 2, 2002
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm in Police Headquarters. Present at the meeting
were Chairman Walser, Commissioners Anderson, Jackson, Karge and Rubin. Also present for
the meeting were Police Chief McCann, Deputy Police Chief Balinski and Deputy Fire Chief
Sashko.
A motion to approve the minutes of the March 5, 2002 meeting was made by Commissioner
Karge and seconded by Commissioner Jackson. The motion was approved with 5 ayes and 0
nays.

O/d Business
A motion was made by Commissioner Rubin, and seconded by Commissioner Anderson, to
approve the proposed amendments to Chapter IV (promotional Process), Section 1
(Examinations) of the BFPC Rules and Regulations.

Commissioner Rubin, Aye; Chairman Walser, Aye. The motion carried 5 to 0.
A motion was made by Commissioner Rubin, and seconded by Commissioner Anderson, to
approve the proposed Fire/Paramedic job announcement.

Commissioner Rubin, Aye; Chairman Walser, Aye. The motion carried 5 to 0.
An update was provided by Deputy Chief Sashko regarding the status of firelparamedic
candidates on the Village of Buffalo Grove's current eligibility list. Completed background
investigations on candidates Shawn Collins and Barry Edgar were provided to Chairman Walser
for review. The background investigations will be circulated to the remaining commissioners
before the next regularly scheduled meeting. Deputy Chief Sashko further stated that a
background investigation on candidate Jim Hauber was just beginning.
A motion was made by Commissioner Jackson, and seconded by Commissioner Anderson, to
approve the 2002 Police Sergeant's Promotional Examination Study Materials.

New Business
The Fire Department's Annual Report was distributed to members of the Board.
Executive Session
A motion was made by Commissioner Jackson, and seconded by Commissioner Rubin, to go into
Executive Session for the purposes of discussing making closed session minutes available to the
public.

Commissioner Rubin, Aye; Chairman Walser, Aye. The motion carried 5 to 0. The Board of Fire
and Police Commissioners went into Executive Session at 7:50 pm.
The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners came out of Executive Session at 7:58 pm.
Open Session New Business Continued
A motion was made by Commissioner Jackson, and seconded by Commissioner Anderson, to
keep closed session minutes confidential due to those minutes being directly related to
personnel information.

Adjournment
The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners adjourned their regular monthly meeting at 7:59
pm.
