2002-06-04 - Board of Fire and Police Commissioners - Minutes Board or Commission: ❑ Fire&Police Commission Document Type: ❑Agenda 0 Minutes Meeting Date: 06/04/2002 Type of Meeting: ❑ Regular Meeting VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS Regular Meeting June 4, 2002 The June 2002 meeting of the Village of Buffalo Grove Board of Fire and Police Commissioners was called to order at 7:30 p.m. at Police Headquarters. Present at the meeting were Chairman Walser and Commissioners Anderson, Jackson, Karge and Rubin. Also in attendance were Police Chief McCann, Fire Chief Sashko, Deputy Police Chief Balinski and Village Liaison Art Malinowski. In addition, Mrs. Nancy Walser, resident of Buffalo Grove was in attendance for the Board's regular monthly meeting. A motion was made by Commissioner Rubin to approve the minutes of the May 7, 2002 meeting. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Anderson, and approved with 5 ayes and 0 nays. Chairman's Report Chairman Walser released copies of the proposed questions for the Firefighter/Paramedic Oral Interviews. It was determined that the interviews would cover all June 22nd, and one half of June 23rd. It was also reported that William Wagner and Douglas Postma were promoted and sworn in as Fire Lieutenants. Commissioner's Reports None Old Business Mr. Malinowski advised the Board that -23- firefighter/paramedic candidates would be taking part in the oral interviews. A tentative date of no later than August 22, 2002 was discussed for the "Notice of Promotional Examination' for the Police Department's 2002 Sergeant's Examination. Chief McCann reported on modifications to the PPR process, including a reduction due to consolidation of criteria. The approval of the PPR modifications was tabled until the July 2002 Regular Meeting. New Business Mr. Malinowski reported that he had met with the Village's representative from Holy Family to discuss a modification to the battery of tests for new hires. Further discussion on this issue will take place during the July 2002 Regular Meeting. Chairman Walser and Mr. Malinowski reported that the full labs and stress test had not been received regarding firefighter/paramedic candidate Shawn Collins. Verbal notification was received reporting no problems or concerns. Executive Session A motion was made by Commissioner Jackson to go into Executive Session for discussion on personnel. Commissioner Rubin seconded the motion. Commissioner Anderson, Aye; Commissioner Jackson, Aye; Commissioner Karge, Aye; Commissioner Rubin, Aye; Chairman Walser, Aye. The motion carried with 5 ayes and 0 nays. The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners went into Executive Session at 8:05 p.m. The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners came out of Executive Session at 8:20 p.m. Open Session New Business Continued A motion was made by Commissioner Jackson and seconded by Commissioner Anderson to make a final offer of employment for the position of firefighter/paramedic to Shawn Collins. Commissioner Anderson, Aye; Commissioner Jackson, Aye; Commissioner Karge, Aye; Commissioner Rubin, Aye; Chairman Walser, Aye. The motion carried with 5 ayes and 0 nays. Shawn Collins will be offered the position. A motion was made by Commissioner Jackson and seconded by Commissioner Anderson to make a conditional offer of employment for the position of police officer to Michael Cruz. Commissioner Anderson, Nay; Commissioner Jackson, Nay; Commissioner Karge, Nay; Commissioner Rubin, Nay; Chairman Walser, Nay. The motion did not carry with 5 nays and 0 ayes. A motion was made by Commissioner Jackson and seconded by Commissioner Rubin to make a conditional offer of employment for the position of firefighter/paramedic to James Hauber. Commissioner Anderson, Aye; Commissioner Jackson, Aye; Commissioner Karge, Aye; Commissioner Rubin, Aye; Chairman Walser, Aye. The motion carried with 5 ayes and 0 nays. James Hauber will be offered the position. Adjournment A motion was made by Commissioner Rubin to adjourn and seconded by Commissioner Jackson. The motion carried with 5 ayes and 0 nays.
