2003-07-01 - Board of Fire and Police Commissioners - Minutes Board orCommission: ❑ Fire& Police commission Document Type: ❑A e g nda 0 Minutes Meeting ate: 07/01/2003 Type of Meeting: ❑ Regular Meeting Village of Buffalo Grove Board of Fire and Police Commissioners Minutes of the Regular Meeting on Tuesday July 1, 2003 CALL TO ORDER and ROLE CALL: The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairman Jackson at the Village of Buffalo Grove Police Headquarters Building. Secretary Lane called roll. Secretary Lane noted for the record that a quorum of the commissioners were present at the meeting. The commissioners present were Chairman Jackson, Commissioner Karge, Commissioner Anderson, Commissioner Rubin was absent. Also in attendance at the meeting were Police Chief Balinski, Fire Chief Sashko and Village Staff Liaison Malinowski. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF JUNE 6, 2003: A motion was made by Commissioner Karge and seconded by Commissioner Lane to approve the minutes as corrected. Chairman Jackson, Commissioner Karge and Commissioner Lane voted Yes. Commissioner Anderson and Commissioner Rubin Abstained. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: The Chairman would like to acknowledge the great support that the Police Department and Dick Draffone gave during the Physical Agility exams. There were 12 candidates that failed the Physical Agility exams, which leaves us with 42 eligible for Oral interviews. He also wanted to make clear that any candidate that becomes unruly during any portion of the process can be asked to leave. COMMISSIONERS' REPORT: Commissioner Karge reported that he attended the retirement Party for Fire Lieutenant Bob Deau. Commissioners Lane, Rubin and Anderson had no report. OLD BUSINESS: The Physical Exams discussion already took place. NEW BUSINESS: A suggestion was made to coordinate with other villages' exams to reduce the number of no-shows for our exams. Chairman Jackson questioned; Why should we exclude those candidate who pass 2 parts of the process? It was discussed that the number of the candidate in previous years were much larger. That is why a limit was set. Commissioner Rubin made a motion that the language in the Rules and Regulation for those who can participate in the oral exam be changed. All the Commissioner voted yes. Chief Sashko said the Commissioners would get a copy of Fire Fighter's Promotion Act. He also stated the newly hired Firefighters are working out well. Chief Balinski reported that nine officers went through the Sergeant's process. They are ready to fill the Commander's and Sergeants positions. EXECUTIVE SESSION: At 8:12 Commissioner Anderson moved that we go into Executive Session. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Rubin. Secretary Lane called the role. All Commissioners voted in favor of the motion. The commissioners returned to regular meeting at 8:30. ADJOURNMENT: The motion was made by Commissioner Rubin, seconded by Commissioner Lane to adjourn the meeting at 8:32 . All Commissioners voted in favor of the motion.
