Board of Fire and Police Commissioners
Minutes of the Regular Meeting on Tuesday, October 7, 2003
CALL TO ORDER and ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairman Jackson
at the Village of Buffalo Grove Police Headquarters Building. Secretary Lane called roll. Secretary Lane
noted for the record that a quorum of the commissioners were present at the meeting. The
commissioners present were Chairman Jackson, Commissioner Karge, Commissioner Anderson,
Commissioner Rubin was absent. Also in attendance at the meeting were Police Chief Balinski, Fire
Chief Sashko and Village
Staff Liaison Art Malinowski
APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 2, 2003: Chairman Jackson
made the motion to approve the minutes of September 2, and seconded by Commissioner Karge. The
motion carried. Commissioner Karge made the motion to approve the minutes of the special meeting
on September 12. It was seconded by Chairman Jackson. The motion carried.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: Would like to extend condolence to the Fire Department from the Board. We
need to begin the procedure in hiring a new firefighter/paramedic. November 4th will be the day to swear
in officer Mike Szos to sergeant. We will proceed in making a conditional offer to William
Mentzelopoulos.
COMMISSIONERS' REPORT: No report
OLD BUSINESS: After a discussion of the letter from Attorney John Broiher. We concluded that it does
not apply to us, but Chairman Jackson will follow up with Mr. Broiher with Chief Sashko's concerns.
The Board has approved the medical services use in the hiring process for the Fire Department.
NEW BUSINESS: The swearing in of Mike Szos will take place at 7:00 p.m. on November 4, prior to our
regular meeting.
ADJOURNMENT: At 7:42 p.m. Commissioner Anderson made a motion to adjourn. It was seconded by
Commissioner Karge. The motion carried.
