Board of Fire and Police Commissioners
Minutes of the Special Meeting on Tuesday, April 13, 2004
CALL TO ORDER and ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order at 7:20 p.m. by
Chairman Jackson at the Village of Buffalo Grove Police Headquarters Building.
Secretary Lane called roll. Secretary Lane noted for the record that a quorum of the
commissioners were present at the meeting. The commissioners present were
Chairman Jackson, Commissioner Karge, and Commissioner Rubin. Also in attendance
at the meeting were Police Chief Balinski, Fire Chief Sashko and Village Staff Liaison
Art Malinowski
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner Rubin made the motion to approve the
minutes of February 3, 2004 and seconded by Commissioner Karge. The motion
carried. Commissioner Karge made the motion to approve the minutes of March 2,
2004 and seconded by Commissioner Rubin. The motion carried.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: The Chairman received a thank you letter from Adam
Higdon and a change of address for Melissa Counley. The commissioners were
reminded of the Annual Conference. The strong box with the recorder and tapes will
remain at the Police Dept.. During our June meeting we be our biannual vote to make
the executive session minutes public. The Village Clerk and the Secretary of the board
will set up a 18 month
timetable to destroy the files.
COMMISSIONERS' REPORT: None
OLD BUSINESS: To date 72 applications have been distributed for
Firefighter/Paramedic candidates. Orientations are scheduled for April 17 at 9:00 a.m.
and April 22 at 7:00 p.m. at Cooper Middle School. The written exam is May 1 at 9:00
a.m. at Buffalo Grove High School. Chief Sashko discussed the new reading list for the
Lieutenant test.
NEW BUSINESS: Chief Sashko discussed making the application for Firefighters
available online. He also discussed loosing good candidates because of the timeline for
being certified as paramedics. Former Deputy Fire Chief Jim Hansen's Wife passed
away on April 8, 2004.
ADJOURNMENT: At 8:12 p.m. Commissioner Karge made a motion to adjourn. It was
seconded by Commissioner Rubin.
