Minutes of the Regular Meeting on Tuesday, August 3, 2004
CALL TO ORDER and ROLL CALL: Chairman Jackson at the Village of Buffalo Grove Police
Headquarters Building called the meeting to order at 7:30PM. Secretary Lane called roll. Secretary Lane
noted for the record that a quorum of the commissioners were present at the meeting. The
commissioners present were Chairman Jackson, Commissioner Karge, Commissioner Rubin,
Commissioner Anderson and Commissioner Lane. Also in attendance at the meeting were Police Chief
Balinski, Deputy Chief Pearson, and Village Staff Liaison Art Malinowski.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF Commissioner Karge made the motion to approve the
minutes of July 6, 2004 and seconded by Commissioner Anderson subject to the change to add Motion
carried.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: None
COMMISSIONERS' REPORT: None
OLD BUSINESS: Art reported the Firefighter/paramedic's recruitment list became final on July 12th.
One candidate turned in the wrong papers to receive his points. The commissioners voted unanimously
to denied him leniency.
Chairman Jackson: Want to vote on the tactical procedure conducted by BGFD, Laser or Maltes Cross.
Deputy Chief Pearson acknowledges that chief Sashko does not want to conduct the tactical in house.
Commissioner Anderson points out that the window is less than 2 weeks to decide accompany to provide
this procedure to the process.
The motion was made by Commissioner Karge and seconded by commissioner lane to table the decision
of choosing to insert the tactical portion of the promotion process for the lieutenant's exam for this cycle.
The commissioner unanimously voted Aye, motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS: Chief Balinski submitted a proposal from Corporal Heer to add to the promotion
process for Sergeant.
Commissioner Rubin made the motion to accept the proposal from Corporal Heer and was seconded by
Commissioner Lane. The vote was unanimously nay.
Deputy Chief Pearson believes that adding the tactical portion of the lieutenant's exam has a lot of merit
and shows us what the candidates are really made of.
Chief Balinski has some suggestions to the Board for the Sergeant promotion exam. He also reported
that 3 of his officers will be on medical leave and Officer Shreeves will retire in January 2005.
ADJOURNMENT: At 8:20PM Commissioner Karge made a motion to adjourn. Commissioner Anderson
seconded it.
