2005-07-12 - Board of Fire and Police Commissioners - Minutes Board or Commission: ❑ Fire& Police commission Document Type: 0 A e g nda 0 Minutes Meeting ate: 07/12/2005 Type of Meeting: ❑ Special Meeting VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE Board of Fire and Police Commissioners Minutes of Special Meeting of July 12, 2005 CALL TO ORDER and ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm by Chairman Jackson at the Village of Buffalo Grove, Police Department Conference Room. Secretary Loeb called the roll. Secretary Loeb noted for the record that a quorum was present at the meeting. Present were Chairman Jackson, Vice Chairman Viehman, Secretary Loeb and Commissioners Anderson and Karge. Also in attendance were Deputy Police Chief Ed Wagner and Village Director of Human Resources, Art Malinowski. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner Jackson stated that the minutes of the meeting of March 2, 2005 were still unavailable. Commissioner Karge made a motion to approve the minutes of June 7, 2005, which was seconded by Commissioner Viehman. All Commissioners voted in favor of the motion. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: Chairman Jackson noted that Fire Chief Sashko and Police Chief Balinski were unable to attend the meeting. COMMISSIONER'S REPORT: Commissioner Karge asked that the minutes reflect a change of venue for the meeting to the Police Department Conference Room. No other new business was reported OLD BUSINESS: A. Update on the 2005 Police Officer recruit testing process: On Saturday and Sunday, June 4-5 and July 9-10, 2005, 104 police officer candidates were interviewed from among those passing the written and physical agility examinations. A total of 117 candidates were scheduled for interview (13 candidates were scheduled, but did not arrive for the interview). The preliminary list of police candidates will be posted on July 22 and the final list, including any claimed preference points, is expected to be posted on or about August 4, 2005. B. Update on the 2005 Police Sergeant promotional process and timeline: The promotional process is on schedule. Commissioner Viehman will attend the Police Sergeant orientation session on October 8 in place of Chairman Jackson, who will be unable to attend. C. Update on Fire Department Collective Bargaining Chairman Jackson reported that Chief Sashko reported to him that the collective bargaining process had been completed and the contact will be considered by the Village Board at the August 1, 2005 meeting. NEW BUSINESS: A. Deputy Chief Wagner reported that Office Senese, who was injured in a traffic accident, is undergoing additional medical examinations and is likely to be granted a disability retirement. There are expected to be 4 Police Officer openings, to be filled by candidates on the newly generated approved candidate list. Officer Szos and Sergeant Haisley will be retiring in August. B. Chairman Jackson and Secretary Loeb reported that they will be unable to attend the October Board of Fire and Police Commissioners meeting. ADJOURNMENT: Motion was made by Commissioner Loeb and seconded by Commissioner Karge to adjourn the meeting. All Commissioners present voted in favor of the motion.
