ALL TO ORDER and ROLL CALL:
Chairman Jackson called the meetng to oder at 7:00 P.M. at the Village of Buffalo Grove Police Headquar-
ters Building. Chairman Jackson noted for the record that a quorum of the commissioners were present at
this meeting. Present were Chairman Jackson, Vice Chairman Viehman, Commissioner Anderson and
Karge. Secretary Loeb was not in attendance. Also, attending was Police Chief Balinsky, Deputy Police
Chief Jamie Dunne and Deputy Fire Chief Dan Pearson.
APPROVAL of MINUTES:
Commissioner Viehman made a motion to approve the minutes of the regular Board meeting of September
6, 2005, which was seconded by Commissioner Anderson.
Commissioner Viehman made a motion to approve the minutes of the special Board meeting of September
16, 2005, which was seconded by Commissioner Jackson.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT:
Chairman Jackson reported that on Saturday, October 15th, there will be 20 candidates for the Sergeants
written test will beheld at 8:30 AM in the Police Department training room. The oral interviews will be held,
starting at 8:00 AM on November 12th in the Chief of Police's Conference Room.
Commissioner Loeb's mother is ill and he has gone out east to be with her and his family.
OLD BUSINESS:
Commissioner Jackson will contact Mr. Broiher and discuss the issue about the missing minutes of the
March meeting.
NEW BUSINESS:
Commissioner Viehman and Commissioner Karge attended the Police Sergeant Orientation session on
October 8th along with four candidates. Commissioner Viehman presented a Memorandum containing four
items for clarification and one comment for future testing of the police promotional process.
Deputy Chief Pearson presented to the Commission for consideration 2006 BFBC Monthly Calendar for
Lieutenants Test Version #1 and alternate#2 with Entry Level Examination for the Commission considera-
tion.
Police Chief Balinski stated at the meeting this evening of the Village of Buffalo Grove Board of Trustees,
the Buffalo Grove Police Department was awarded a national award for traffic safety by the International
Association of Chief's of Police and recognition of Grimm, PD K-9 on his retirement after 10 years of serv-
ice.
Chief Balinski also reported that Sargent Chrobak is out of the hospital and is recovering at her home.
EXECUTIVE SESSION:
8:10 P.M. Motioned by Commissioner Anderson Seconded by Commissioner Viehman to go into Executive
Session for Discussion of Police Officer Candidate(s).
NEW BUSINESS CONTINUED:
8:51 P.M. Returned to Public Session.
Motioned by Commissioner Viehman and Seconded by Commissioner Anderson to make a Conditional
Offer of employment to Lee Catavu for Police Officer. Roll Call Vote: Commissioner Jackson - Nay,
Commissioner Anderson - Nay, Commissioner Karge- Nay, Commissioner Viehman - Nay.
Motioned by Commissioner Viehman and Seconded by Commissioner Anderson to make a Conditional
Offer of employment to Jay Doherty for Police Officer. Roll Call Vote: Commissioner Jackson - Nay,
Commissioner Anderson - Nay, Commissioner Karge- Nay, Commissioner Viehman - Nay.
Motioned by Commissioner Viehman and Seconded by Commissioner Anderson to make a Conditional
Offer of employment to Matthew Kiewiet for Police Officer. Roll Call Vote: Commissioner Jackson - Nay,
Commissioner Anderson - Nay, Commissioner Karge- Nay, Commissioner Viehman -Aye.
ADJOURNMENT:
At 9:57 P.M. Commissioner Anderson made a motion to adjourn. Commissioner Viehman seconded it.
