2006-08-01 - Board of Fire and Police Commissioners - Minutes Board orCommission: ❑ Fire& Police commission Document Type: 0 A e g nda 0 Minutes Meeting ate: 08/01/2006 Type of Meeting: ❑ Regular Meeting VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE Board of Fire and Police Commissioners Minutes of Regular Meeting August 1, 2006 CALL TO ORDER and ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order at 7:31 p.m. by Chairman Viehman in the Chief's Conference Room of the Village of Buffalo Grove Police Department. Commissioner Dibbern called the role and noted for the record that a quorum was present at the meeting. Present were Chairman Viehman, Commissioners Karge, Loeb, Lukatsky and Dibbern. Also in attendance were Police Chief Steve Balinski and Village HR Director Mr. Art Malinowski. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner Lukatsky made a motion to approve the minutes of the BFPC Special Meeting of July 5, 2006, seconded by Commissioner Loeb (as amended). The motion was approved by a voice vote CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: Chairman Viehman noted the exceptional manner in which the police department conducted itself in the pursuit of a dangerous criminal on the street. He thanked the department for supporting the citizens of Buffalo Grove. The Fire Department is celebrating 25 years of service to the Village and surrounding neighborhoods. We should be very proud of the firefighters and the department. An open house will be held September 16 at the Deerfield station to celebrate 25 years. COMMISSIONER'S REPORT: Commissioner Loeb asked that the September meeting be moved to September 6. OLD BUSINESS: Update of the Firefighter/Paramedic recruitment process: Mr. Malinowski reported that the final roster of 48 has been sent to all candidates which included preference points. A motion was made by Commissioner Lukatsky and seconded by Commissioner Karge to approve the Firefighter/Paramedic Candidate Final Roster effective dated July 26, 2008 expires dated July 26, 2008. All commissioners present voted in favor of the motion. It was noted that the commission was very pleased with the quality of the applicants. NEW BUSINESS: Chief Balinski reviewed with the commission the Lateral Entry program for police. The current program was approved by a previous board. Commissioner Karge is the only commissioner on the current board with any knowledge of the program. The next step in the process is to determine the best way to implement the program with the objective to establish a Lateral Entry Police List. Chairman Viehman asked the commissioners to review the materials provided at the meeting and be ready to discuss at the next meeting the implementation process. Chairman Viehman also mentioned that we will also be reviewing the Rules and Regulations in the near future. Update on the 2006 Police Officer hiring process: Chief Balinski reported that Officers Broussard and Dimeler are in the academy. Officers Verduczo and Hill will be released from training soon. The September meeting will be moved to September 6 to accommodate Commissioner Loeb. ADJOURNMENT: With no further business before the Board, a motion was made by Commissioner Lukatsky, seconded by Commissioner Loeb to adjourn the meeting.
