2007-02-06 - Board of Fire and Police Commissioners - Minutes Board orCommission: ❑ Fire& Police commission Document Type: 0 A e g nda 0 Minutes Meeting ate: 02/06/2007 Type of Meeting: ❑ Regular Meeting VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE Board of Fire and Police Commissioners Minutes of Regular Meeting February 6, 2007 CALL TO ORDER and ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm by Chairman Viehman in the Chiefs Conference Room of the Village of Buffalo Grove Police Department. Commissioner Dibbern called the roll and noted for the record that a quorum was present at the meeting. Present were Chairman Viehman, Commissioners Loeb, Lukatsky and Dibbern. Not present was Commissioner Karge. Also in attendance were Police Chief Steve Balinski and Fire Chief Tim Sashko. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner Loeb made a motion to approve the minutes as amended of the BFPC Meeting of January 2, 2007 seconded by Commissioner Lukatsky. The motion was approved by a voice vote. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: Chairman Viehman congratulated Sgt. Gretz on successfully completing his12 month probationary period and Firefighter Vena on his successful completion of his 18 month probationary period. FF Vena is now a regular member of the Buffalo Grove Fire Department. Chairman Viehman also congratulated the Police Department for very impressive results it received in 2006 for crash reductions by officer participation in the Crash Reduction Education Program and the Traffic Enforcement Programs. The men and women of both departments should be commended on their performance and on being positive representatives of the community. Awards for the 4`h Quarter 2006 included: Life Saving Awards to Cpl. Hyland and Officers Broussard, Sizer and Lowenberg; Outstanding Achievement Award to Cpl. Tony Gallagher; Employee of the Quarter to Cpl. Heer; Officer of the Year to Commander Husak. Chairman Viehman will ask the HR Director to update the BFPC contact list and make it available at the next meeting. COMMISSIONER'S REPORT: Commissioners had no news to report. CHIEF REPORTS: Chief Sashko reported that the new truck has arrived. He also reported that he is reviewing the list of new hires. On February 13 at 7:00 p.m. at Station 26, Wendy Durkin will be sworn in as Lieutenant. Chief Balinski announced that Mark Bucalo has been promoted to Commander and that Cpl. Bethge and Cpl. Eisenmenger are promoted to Sergeant. The oath of office ceremony will be held March 6, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at the police department. OLD BUSINESS: The Commission reviewed the Lateral Entry 9 Phased Process. A motion was made by Commissioner Lukatsky and seconded by Commissioner Loeb to approve the Lateral Entry 9 Phased Process as outlined. The motion was approved by a voice vote. NEW BUSINESS: Chairman Viehman presented the Commissioners with the Police Officer Recruit Examination Schedule. A motion was made by Commissioner Loeb, seconded by Commissioner Dibbern to approve the Police Officer Recruit Examination Schedule. The motion was approved by voice vote. Chief Sashko explained the probationary process for firefighter/paramedic. ADJOURNMENT OF OPEN SESSION: Motion was made my Commissioner Loeb and seconded by Commissioner Lukatsky to adjourn the open session and move to Executive Session at 8:20 p.m. All Commissioners present voted in favor of the motion. EXECUTIVE SESSION: The executive session was called to order at 8:25 p.m. Present were Chairman Viehman, Commissioners Loeb, Lukatsky, and Dibbern. At 8:37 p.m. a motion was made by Commissioner Lukatsky and seconded by Commissioner Dibbern to adjourn the executive session. All Commissioners present voted in favor of the motion. RETURN TO OPEN SESSION: The open session resumed at 8:39 p.m. to consider making a conditional offer of employment to one candidate. Candidate#51: Cynthia Bock. A motion was made by Commissioner Lukatsky, seconded by Commissioner Loeb to make a conditional offer of employment to candidate Bock. Commissioners Loeb, Lukatsky, Dibbern and Chairman Viehman voted for the motion. Chairman Viehman will contact the candidate and make the offer of conditional employment. ADJOURNMENT: A motion was made at 8:41 p.m. by Commissioner Loeb, seconded by Commissioner Dibbern to adjourn the meeting.
