Minutes of Regular Meeting June 3, 2008
CALL TO ORDER and ROLL CALL:
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairman Viehman in the Chief s Conference
Room of the Village of Buffalo Grove Police Department. Commissioner Dibbern called the roll
and noted for the record that a quorum was present at the meeting. Present were Chairman
Viehman, Commissioners Karge, Lukatsky, and Dibbern. Not present was Commissioner Loeb.
Also in attendance were Police Chief Steve Balinski, Deputy Fire Chief Dan Pearson, and HR
Director Mr. Art Malinowski
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Commissioner Lukatsky made a motion to approve the minutes of the BFPC Regular Meeting of
May 6, 2008, seconded by Commissioner Karge. The motion was approved by a voice vote.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT:
Chairman Viehman noted that Meghan C. Schlenker was sworn in as a Police Officer on
May 19, 2008. Chairman Viehman congratulated the Buffalo Grove Police Department
for being awarded First Place in the Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge. The BGPC was
also given additional awards for the Speeding Awareness Program and
Bicycle/Pedestrian Safety Program.
COMMISSIONER'S REPORTS:
Commissioners had no news to report.
CHIEF REPORTS:
Chief Balinski reported that one officer is still on light duty and will begin work hardening
next month. He reminded the Commission of the Special Olympics Bowing event at
Hawthorn Lanes on Friday June 6 and the Law Enforcement Torch Run will begin in the
village on Sunday June 8 at 8:45am at Aptakisic and Milwaukee Ave.
Deputy Chief Pearson reported that the department was at full strength and the new hires
were progressing very well.
OLD BUSINESS:
The 2008 Police Sergeant Notice of Promotion Examination has been released. Books have
been available for study.
Books have been purchased for the Fire Lt. examination. There are currently 20 applicants.
Chairman Viehman reported that 116 candidates have applied for the FF/PM applicant test.
79 candidates took the written test. 67 passed with a 75% or better. 66 passed the EJF.
Oral interviews will take place on June 14 and 15 at the Police Station.
Chairman Viehman tabled the review of the Rules and Regulations until another meeting.
NEW BUSINESS:
There was no new business to report.
ADJOURNMENT:
A motion was made at 7:45 p.m. by Commissioner Lukatsky, seconded by Commissioner Karge
to adjourn the meeting. The meeting was adjourned.
