Minutes of Regular Meeting August 4, 2009
CALL TO ORDER and ROLL CALL:
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairman Viehman in the Chiefs
Conference Room of the Village of Buffalo Grove Police Department. Commissioner
Dibbern called the roll and noted for the record that a quorum was present at the
meeting. Present were Chairman Viehman, Commissioners Karge, Loeb, Lukatsky,
and Dibbern. Also in attendance were Fire Chief Terry Vavra, Deputy Police Chief
Ed Wagner, HR Director Art Malinowski, and Village Trustee Liaison Steve
Trilling.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Commissioner Lukatsky made a motion to approve the minutes of the BFPO
Regular Meeting of July 7, 2009, seconded by Commissioner Loeb. The motion was
approved by a voice vote.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT:
Chairman Viehman thanked the Fire Department for the Code 3 presentation on
the fire on Chambliss. It was very informative and very well attended by
local citizens.
Chairman Viehman noted that the Fire Department Fill the Boot campaign will
have volunteer opportunities the mornings of Aug 21, Aug 28 and during
Buffalo Grove Days. Please contact Joe Alexander if you are interested in
volunteering.
COMMISSIONER'S REPORTS:
Commissioner Dibbern also thanked the Fire Department for the Code 3
presentation and noted that Lt. Durkin did a great job in explaining the fire
situation.
CHIEF REPORTS
FIRE DEPARTMENT
Chief Vavra reported that the Battalion Chief testing is ongoing.
There are six candidates
The Fire Department Open House and Awards Ceremony will be held
on September 26 from 10:00 am- 2:00 pm.
A new sprinkler system has been installed in the basement of Station
27 at no cost to the Village.
The ISO rating process is beginning. The rating consists of 50% Fire
Department, 40% Water and 10% Communications. Chief Vavra is
confident that our rating will remain at ISO Level 2 which reflects
the top 5%.
The Fire Department will be on hand at National Night Out.
POLICE DEPARTMENT
Deputy Chief Wagner reported that there are two sergeants on light
duty, and one sergeant and 3 officers off on medical leave.
The following are having anniversaries in August: Officer Dave
Halverson 30 years on August 8, Sergeant Tom Nugent 20 years on
August 7, and on August 13, both Corporal Tony Gallagher and
Commander Jim Newton will be celebrating 30 years with the
department.
OLD BUSINESS:
Chairman Viehman summarized the applied for preference points for the
Police Eligibility Register:
30 of 48 candidates applied for preference points
1 was not approved
1 arrived after the deadline and was not accepted
1 candidate received CSO points
3 candidates received Military points
2 candidates received points for an AA degree
25 candidates received points for a BA degree
6 of 51 candidates applied for preference points in 2007
A motion was made by Commissioner Karge, seconded by Commissioner
Dibbern, to approve the applied for preference points. The motion was
passed by voice vote.
NEW BUSINESS:
A motion was made by Commissioner Dibbern, seconded by Commissioner
Loeb, to approve the Police Officer Final Eligibility Register, effective
August 5, 2009 expiring August 5, 2011. The motion was passed by voice
vote.
ADJOURNMENT:
A motion was made at 7:48 p.m. by Commissioner Lukatsky, seconded by
Commissioner Karge to adjourn the meeting. The meeting was adjourned
