Minutes of Regular Meeting January 5, 2010
CALL TO ORDER and ROLL CALL:
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chairman Viehman in the Chiefs
Conference Room of the Village of Buffalo Grove Police Department. Commissioner
Dibbern called the roll and noted for the record that a quorum was present at the
meeting. Present were Chairman Viehman, Commissioners Karge, Loeb, Lukatsky,
and Dibbern. Also in attendance were Police Chief Steve Balinski, Fire Chief Terry
Vavra, and HR Director Art Malinowski.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Commissioner Lukatsky made a motion to approve the minutes of the BFPO
Regular Meeting of December 1, 2009, seconded by Commissioner Karge. The
motion was approved by a voice vote. Commissioner Loeb abstained.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT:
A. Chairman Viehman reported that Officer Hansen was sworn in on
December 22 and the ceremony was very well attended by the department
and friends. He is enrolled in the academy.
B. A copy of the annual report of BFPO activities for 2009 was prepared and
submitted to Mr. Brimm's office.
C. Chairman Viehman distributed copies of the recently approved BFPO
Rules and Regulations.
D. Chairman Viehman reported that two weeks ago, the Village Board
approved an Ethics Guideline for the Village. He asked Mr. Malinowski
to hand out the Guidelines and he asked Trustee Trilling to review them
at the February meeting. All volunteer Boards have been supplied with
copies.
COMMISSIONER'S REPORTS:
Commissioners had no news to report.
CHIEF REPORTS:
POLICE DEPARTMENT
A. Chief Balinski reported that one sergeant is on light duty and one
officer will be having surgery.
B. Chief Balinski reported that Corporal Rodriguez has reported to the
Academy as a supervisor and instructor from January thru March
2010.
FIRE DEPARTMENT
A. Chief Vavra reported that one FF/PM will be back next week to
duty and one FF/PM will return next week on light duty.
B. The Chief reported that the call volume dropped by 200 calls in
2009 versus 2008. The department averages about 4700-4900 calls
per year.
OLD BUSINESS:
A. The Board received an update on the FF/PM recruitment and testing
process.
a. Mandatory Orientation will be held April 17 and April 21, 2010.
b. Written Examination will be on May 8, 2010.
c. Oral Interviews will take place on June 12 and June 13, 2010.
d. Posting of Preliminary List is on July 7, 2010.
e. Posting of Final Eligibility Register is July 26, 2010.
NEW BUSINESS:
There was no new business before the board.
ADJOURNMENT:
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was
adjourned by the Chair at 7:28 p.m.
