2010-06-01 - Board of Fire and Police Commissioners - Minutes Board orCommission: ❑ Fire& Police commission Document Type: ❑A e g nda 0 Minutes Meeting ate: 06/01/2010 Type of Meeting: ❑ Regular Meeting VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE Board of Fire and Police Commissioners Minutes of Regular Meeting June 1, 2010 CALL TO ORDER and ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chairman Viehman in the Chiefs Conference Room of the Village of Buffalo Grove Police Department. Commissioner Dibbern called the roll and noted for the record that a quorum was present at the meeting. Present were Chairman Viehman, Commissioners Karge, Loeb, Lukatsky and Dibbern. Also in attendance were Police Chief Steve Balinski and HR Director Art Malinowski. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner Loeb made a motion to approve the minutes of the BFPO Regular Meeting of May 4, 2010, as amended, seconded by Commissioner Karge. The motion was approved by a voice vote. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: A. Chairman Viehman reported that Officer Hansen on May 26 was released from field training and is doing very well. COMMISSIONER'S REPORTS: Commissioner Karge along with Commissioners Dibbern and Lukatsky attended the "wetting down" of the two new Fire Department trucks. Commissioner Karge also attended the recent Code 3 event and congratulated the Department on both programs. CHIEF REPORTS: POLICE DEPARTMENT A. Chief Balinski reported that this year the Buffalo Grove Police Department competed in the "Champion Category" in the Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge. They competed among the best in the State of Illinois. They received FIRST PLACE in the following categories: Championship Category, Speed Awareness Program and Teen Driving Program. To receive three awards in the same year is quite an accomplishment. The award took into consideration the following categories: Policies and Guidelines, Training of Officers, Incentives and Recognition, Public Information and Education, Enforcement Activity and Effectiveness of Efforts. He is very proud of his team and their efforts based upon their commitment and dedication to an important community value, roadway safety. B. Chief Balinski reported one officer is on a work hardening program and three other officers are out with various illnesses. C. He informed the Commission that Officer Baron will be graduating in two weeks from the Canine Academy with her new partner "Chance". OLD BUSINESS: A. Chairman Viehman reported that we had 124 firefighter/paramedic applicants take the written test. One hundred and three passed the test with a ranging from 96 to 50 and an average pass score of 84%. We will interview 52 candidates with scores 84 and above. The interviews will take place on Saturday June 12 and Sunday June 13. B. Chairman Viehman reviewed the oral questions for the interviews and recommended that we have no written question as part of the oral interviews. In the past we have had the last question be a written exercise. The Commissioners discussed the issue and agreed all the questions would be oral. NEW BUSINESS: There was no new business to report.
