2011-01-04 - Board of Fire and Police Commissioners - Minutes Board orCommission: ❑ Fire& Police commission Document Type: 0 A e g nda 0 Minutes Meeting ate: 01/04/2011 Type of Meeting: ❑ Regular Meeting VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE Board of Fire and Police Commissioners Minutes of Regular Meeting January 4, 2011 CALL TO ORDER and ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chairman Viehman in the Chiefs Conference Room of the Village of Buffalo Grove Police Department. Commissioner Dibbern called the roll and noted for the record that a quorum was present at the meeting. Present were Chairman Viehman, Commissioners Karge, Loeb, Lukatsky and Dibbern. Also in attendance were Police Chief Steve Balinski, Fire Chief Terry Vavra, and HR Director Art Malinowski. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner Loeb made a motion to approve the minutes of the BFPO Regular Meeting of December 7, 2010, seconded by Commissioner Lukatsky. The motion was approved by a voice vote. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: Chairman Viehman asked the Board to review the BFPO Annual Report. Mr. Malinowski will deliver the report to the Village Board at their next meeting. The year was very busy with Fire Department activities and 2011 will also be busy with Police Department activities. He congratulated the Board for another very successful year and noted that the Board will continue to participate when asked to do so. COMMISSIONER'S REPORTS: The Commissioners present had no new news to report. CHIEF REPORTS: FIRE DEPARTMENT A. Chief Vavra apologized for not being at last months meeting as he was at a fire. One firefighter had a minor injury and was back to work very soon. B. Chief Vavra reported that one FF/PM who was out on medical leave is now back to light duty and will be doing some statistical analysis work. Commissioner Loeb offered his expertise for the analysis work. Commissioner Loeb is interested in determining the ultimate outcomes of patients being transported. It was noted that it is difficult to get results from the hospitals for such an analysis. POLICE DEPARTMENT A. Chief Balinski thanked the Board for their participation in the Make an Angel Smile Party. It was a great event. B. Chief Balinski reported that one officer is on medical leave for 4-6 weeks, one officer currently on light duty should return to full duty mid January and one officer on light duty should return to full duty at the end of January. C. Chairman Viehman noted that the calls for service and crashes were down but would like to get comparative data. Chief Balinski will forward to the Commissioners the Traffic and Management Report that will give greater detail. D. Commissioner Karge asked about the results for the Safe Run on 21. Chief Balinski will forward the results once they become available. OLD BUSINESS: A. Chairman Viehman noted that the advertisements for Police Officer testing will go out in a couple of months. B. Chairman Viehman presented the Police Sergeant Promotional Eligibility Ranking Process letter to Chief Balinski for posting. NEW BUSINESS: There was no new business to discuss. ADJOURNMENT: A motion was made by Commissioner Lukatsky to adjourn the meeting at 7:18 p.m., seconded by Commissioner Karge. The motion was approved by voice vote. Respectfully submitted, Jane L.
