2011-08-22 - Board of Fire and Police Commissioners - Minutes Board or Commission: ❑ Fire&Police Commission Document Type: ❑Agenda 0 Minutes Meeting Date: 08/22/2011 Type of Meeting: ❑ Special Meeting VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE Board of Fire and Police Commissioners Minutes of Special Meeting August 22, 2011 CALL TO ORDER and ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chairman Viehman in the Chiefs Conference Room of the Village of Buffalo Grove Police Department. Commissioner Dibbern called the roll and noted for the record that a quorum was present at the meeting. Present were Chairman Viehman, Commissioners Karge, Loeb, Lukatsky, and Dibbern. Also in attendance was HR Director Art Malinowski. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: Chairman Viehman handed out two summaries of Public Act 97-0251 (Firefighter Examination/Testing) for the commissioners to review for discussion at the next regular meeting. COMMISSIONER'S REPORTS: Commissioner Loeb expressed profound thanks and appreciation to the BGFD and BGPD and the showing of support from the village staff and trustees during the very tough past couple of weeks. He noted that the village family has tremendously helped the Loeb family and he is very grateful. QUESTIONS FROM THE AUDIENCE: There were no questions from the audience. ADJOURNMENT OF OPEN SESSION: A motion was made by Commissioner Lukatsky, seconded by Commissioner Dibbern, for the Board to adjourn to a Closed Executive Session as authorized by Subsection 2(a) of the Illinois Open Meetings Act [5ILCS 120/2(a)] for the purpose of reviewing personnel information. Commissioners Karge, Loeb, Lukatsky, Dibbern and Viehman voted in favor of the motion. Open session was adjourned at 7:03 p.m. EXECUTIVE SESSION: A. The executive session was called to order at 7:04 p.m. Present were Chairman Viehman, Commissioners Karge, Loeb, Lukatsky, Dibbern and HR Director Art Malinowski. Background investigation materials on one Firefighter/Paramedic candidate were reviewed and discussed. At 7:10 p.m. a motion was made by Commissioner Dibbern, seconded by Commissioner Karge to adjourn the executive session. The motion was approved by a voice vote. RETURN TO OPEN SESSION: The open session resumed at 7:11 p.m. for the purpose of making position offers. Firefighter/Paramedic Candidate # 18: Brian N. Potesta. A motion was made by Commissioner Dibbern, seconded by Commissioner Lukatsky, to make a conditional offer of employment to FF/PM Candidate Potesta. Commissioners Karge, Loeb, Lukatsky, Dibbern and Viehman voted in favor of the motion. The motion passed. Chairman Viehman will contact the candidate and make the conditional offer of employment. ADJOURNMENT: A motion was made by Commissioner Loeb to adjourn the meeting at 7:13 p.m., seconded by Commissioner Karge. The motion was approved by voice vote. Respectfully submitted, Jane L.
