Buffalo Grove, 11 60089 2196 111-on(I 841-41;9 M ax VILLAGE OF BUFFALO GROVE Board of Fire and Police Commissioners Minutes of Regular Meeting November 6, 2012 CALL TO ORDER and ROLL CALL: The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chairman Viehman in the Chief s Conference Room of the Village of Buffalo Grove Police Department. Commissioner Dibbern called the roll and noted for the record that a quorum was present at the meeting. Present were Chairman Viehman, Commissioners Karge, Loeb, and Dibbern. Not present was Commissioner Lukatsky. Also in attendance were Police Chief Balinski, Fire Chief Vavra, Police Commander Szos, and HR Director Malinowski. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: A. Commissioner Loeb made a motion to approve the minutes of the BFPC Regular Meeting of October 2, 2012, seconded by Commissioner Karge. Commissioners Karge, Loeb, Dibbern and Viehman voted in favor of the motion. The motion passed. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: A. Chairman Viehman received notice from the Village Manager that given the current budgetary restraints, there will be no hiring of firefighters or police personnel until further notice. Chairman Viehman noted that for those candidates in the investigative process have been sent a letter notifying them that the investigatory process has been put on hold. COMMISSIONER'S REPORTS: The Commissioners present had no new news to report. CHIEF AND TRUSTEE REPORTS FIRE DEPARTMENT A. Chief Vavra reported that on Halloween a new tradition was started by handing out goody bags to about 1000 children. As a special treat, 5 bags included a special prize for the recipient to get a ride to school on a fire vehicle. B. The annual retirement party will be held on November 16 at 6:30p.m. at the Arboretum. Cost is $50. FF/PM Shurba, FF/PM Gough, FF/PM Hanley, FF/PM Skalla, and FF/PM Karol will be honored. POLICE DEPARTMENT A. Chief Balinski reported that 3 officers and one records employee are off on medical leave. B. Chief Balinski reported that Officer Hawkins is on special assignment as an EST with NIPAS, Officer Turano is on special assignment as a MFF with NIPAS and Officer Hansen will be on special assignment in December with LCMEG. C. Chief Balinski noted that the Staff Holiday Party will be held on December 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Cooper's Hawk Restaurant. On December 14 the Make an Angel party will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the station. Sponsors are still needed. D. Chief Balinski offered congratulations to Commander Szos who has been accepted to the FBI Academy at Quantico. He will start in January 2013. QUESTIONS FROM THE AUDIENCE: There were no questions from the audience. OLD BUSINESS: A. Chairman Viehman provided a current status on candidates on the active Firefighter/Paramedic and Police Officer Eligibility Lists. NEW BUSINESS: A. Chairman Viehman noted that the current Police Officer Eligibility List expires in August 2013. He presented a schedule of testing activities for review. He noted that the dates were developed to take into consideration the NIPSTA requirement. A motion was made by Commissioner Dibbern, seconded by Commissioner Loeb, to approve the 2013 Entry Police Officer Testing Cycle Schedule of Activities, dated 11/l/2012. Commissioners Karge, Loeb, Dibbern and Viehman voted in favor of the motion. The motion passed. ADJOURNMENT: A motion was made by Commissioner Dibbern to adjourn the meeting at 7:17 p.m., seconded by Commissioner Loeb. The motion was approved by voice vote Respectfully submitted, Jane L.
