Minutes of Regular Meeting May 7, 2013
CALL TO ORDER and ROLL CALL:
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chairman Viehman in the Chief s Conference
Room of the Village of Buffalo Grove Police Department. Commissioner Dibbern called the roll
and noted for the record that a quorum was present at the meeting. Present were Chairman
Viehman, Commissioners Karge, Lukatsky, and Dibbern. Not in attendance was Commissioner
Loeb. Also in attendance were Interim Police Chief Husak, Police Commander Szos, Fire Chief
Vavra, Trustee Liaison Trilling, and HR Director Malinowski.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
A. Commissioner Karge made a motion to approve the minutes of the BFPC Regular
Meeting of April 2, 2013, seconded by Commissioner Dibbern. Commissioners Karge,
Dibbern and Viehman voted in favor of the motion. Commissioner Lukatsky abstained.
The motion passed.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT:
A. Chairman Viehman reminded the Commissioners to be sure to complete the
Economic/Conflict of Interest Surveys and turn them in by the deadline.
COMMISSIONER'S REPORTS:
A. The Commissioners present had no new news to report.
CHIEF AND TRUSTEE REPORTS
FIRE DEPARTMENT
A. Chief Vavra noted that the department conducted a residential sprinkler
system demonstration for the Village Board.
B. Chief Vavra offered congratulations on the birth of a baby boy to Mark and
Tara Anderson.
C. Chief Vavra reported one firefighter is off due to a back injury.
POLICE DEPARTMENT
A. Interim Chief Husak reported one officer is off on FMLA.
B. Interim Chief Husak noted that Tara Anderson has been nominated for
employee for the quarter for her work on harassment via the internet and
undercover work regarding the purchase of a gun, Honorable mention went to
Ryan Parker for his 242 traffic citations and 39 arrests
C. Interim Chief Husak noted that Sgt. Rodriguez will graduate May 24 from
Staff and Command School at Northwestern.

TRUSTEE REPORT
A. Trustee Trilling had no new news to report.
QUESTIONS FROM THE AUDIENCE:
There were no questions from the audience.
OLD BUSINESS:
A. Chairman Viehman reviewed the written test process. The tests have arrived and have
been verified. 355 tests were ordered. Any unused tests can be sent back for credit.
a. The police recruitment team of officers should arrive by 7:30am
b. The police volunteers should arrive by 8:OOm
c. Registration will open at 7:45am. The Commissioners should arrive by 7:30am.
d. We will use the main entrance and will lock the other doors.
e. Commissioner Dibbern will divide lists into A-D, E-K, L-O, P-R and S-Z. She
will sent a copy to Sgt. Spolar.
f. The tests will be scored on site and the results will be delivered to the candidates
soon after they finish.
g. The oral interviews will take place on June 8 and 9 and will include the top 40
and ties. Trustee Trilling asked to attend a few of the interviews to get an insight
on the process.
h. The oral interview questions will be approved at the June meeting.
B. Chairman Viehman asked all to review the Rules and Regulations draft and return any
comments to him within the next ten days.
NEW BUSINESS:
A. Chairman Viehman reported that per our Rules and Regulations, the Board must elect a
Secretary for a one year term at the May meeting. A motion was made by Commissioner
Lukatsky, seconded by Commissioner Karge, to reappoint Commissioner Dibbern to the
position of Board of Fire and Police Commission Secretary. Commissioners Karge,
Lukatsky and Viehman voted in favor of the motion. Commissioner Dibbern abstained.
The motion passed.
ADJOURNMENT:
A motion was made by Commissioner Lukatsky to adjourn the meeting at 7:43 p.m., seconded
by Commissioner Karge. Commissioners Karge, Lukatsky, Dibbern and Viehman voted in
favor of the motion. The motion passed.
