Meeting Summary for October 19, 2000

Members Present— Chairman Bonnie Factor, Ernie Karge, Karolyn Swanson,Gina Sheade, Terri Ebner,
Park District Liaison Dan Schimmel,Village Liaison Phil Versten.
Members Not Present— Steve Perlis.
The meeting was called to order by Bonnie at 7:05 pm.
A motion was made by Ernie and seconded by Gina to approve the agenda without any changes. Motion
passed.
The meeting summary of September 28 was reviewed. Phil corrected page 2 to read: "Village President
Elliott Hartstein's efforts..."The minutes were approved with corrections in place.
Clarification of Survey—Dan had submitted a written clarification of programs offered to seniors by the
park district. The survey results were misleading as they did not accurately represent the wide variety of
programs offered. Terri also commented on the survey defending the number of programs and wide
variety offered.
Service Providers Meeting—There was considerable discussion on the potential for hosting a service
providers meeting. The results of that discussion are as follows:
- The meeting should attract seniors as well as providers.
- The event will be more of a senior"expo"
- After discussing Alcott as a host site, Dan suggested that we might want to consider using the
golf dome because of its size and available parking. It could be held anytime in April or very early May.
Alcott would not be available until after preschool was over in late May or early June.
- Set up could be provided by park district and village personnel.
- It was decided that it would be appropriate to get businesses involved in presenting their services.
Dan will contact Mike Jonas and Lynne Schneider to discuss the possibility of it being a joint program.
- It was noted that Skip Hart, of the fire department,had expressed a past interest in doing this type
of program and that he might again be interested.
- Another part of getting service providers involved is to link web sites and to have a resource
exchange.
- Mailing lists of service providers were brought by Karolyn,Phil and Dan. Dan also brought
materials from past events to help us in the planning of this event.
- Dan has to clear use of the facility for this type of event with Director of Parks and Recreation
Mike Rylko but thought it would be approved.
The meeting adjourned at 8:10 pm.
