2001-05-24 - Committee on Aging - Minutes Board or Commission: ❑ Committee on Aging Document Type: 0 A e g nda 0 Minutes Meeting ate: 05/24/2001 Type of Meeting: ❑ Regular Meeting Buffalo Grove Joint Commission on Aging Meeting Summary for May 24, 2001 Buffalo Grove Learning Center Members Present—Chairman Bonnie Factor, Ernie Karge, Steve Perlis, Gina Sheade, and Park District Staff Liaison Dan Schimmel. Guests Present— David Irwin — Libertyville The meeting was called to order by Bonnie at 7:05 P.M. There were no additions to the agenda and it was approved by general consensus. There were no meeting summaries from previous meetings to review. Old Business Appointments Dan reported that commission members were up for reappointment in June. He also mentioned that the Park District was looking for a replacement for Bonnie to serve as Chairman of the Commission. Any interested parties should contact Dan. Senior Extravaganza Review and Evaluation— General Comments - The event was far successful more than expected - It was nice that the park district did something for the seniors - Fun Day - Good Time - Exhibitors said that their tables were, "well visited" - Exhibitors seemed happy—people were always talking to them throughout the day Facility and Layout - Early arrivals were a problem. Lucky it didn't rain - The extra room was helpful for the early arrivals - Mixed reviews on whether the event should be longer or shorter. Decided it was probably just right since we had good traffic all the way up to 2 pm. - One commissioner mentioned that, "Its nice to have some quiet time too!" - Not enough room for wheelchairs - Probably need a bigger room next year - No need to do anything but the hot dogs —chicken would get too costly - The coffee and donuts before the event was a nice touch - David Irvin suggested doing it under a tent next year so to expand - Police coverage was excellent - NWSRA Shuttle Van was needed and very much appreciated Entertainment - The dog and Elvis were the most popular - Nice to have more quiet - The "MC's"were great! - Probably don't need to have as much entertainment as we had Exhibitor and Sponsor Relations - Needed an exhibitor evaluation in the packet - Needed more room for Cub Foods and for the State of Illinois Mobile Unit - Needed more time slots for hearing testing. Those on the wait list were later called by Terri for a "make up"test - John from Grove Banquets was very pleased with the turnout and how everything worked out - Dan mentioned that several were already committed to participating next year. Mentioned that the Friends of the Park Foundation wanted to sponsor again next year. Raffles - Terri reported that we had 50 raffles announced. Only three or four had to be called later for pick UPS - Gift certificates are much easier to deal with than prizes. The meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm. Our next meeting is scheduled for June 28 at 7 pm.
