MINUTES OF THE BUFFALO GROVE COMMISSION
FOR RESIDENTS WITH DISABILITIES MEETING
SEPTEMBER 27, 2000
I. Call to Order—The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m.
IL Roll Call— Commissioners present included Chairman Kahen, Commissioners Chorney,
Gottlieb, Holcombe, Sussman and Weiner. Also present were Liaison Versten and Trustees

V. Commissioners Reports
Commissioner Chorney brought up the issue that Buffalo Grove does not seem to be
"group home friendly" with regard to existing ordinances that limit the number of
non-related individuals living in a home. This was raised by Clearbrook President Carl
LaMell at the September 7 Legislative Coffee. Comm. Gottlieb offered to contact Carl
to get more information on the specifics of the issue. Trustee Johnson said he would
ask at the next Municipal Conference Meeting.
VI. Sub-Committee Reports
A. Regional Sub-Committee— Comm. Holcombe reported on the success of the September
7 Legislative Coffee. Senator Peterson, Rep. Mathias and Rep. Krause's aid Nancy Von Helms
attended. There was a great deal of sharing and candid discussion about the legislative process
and previous advocacy efforts. There is a follow up meeting with Ill. Dept. of Human Services
Secretary, Linda Renee Baker, for Tuesday, October 24, here at Village Hall.
B. Board/Commissions Sub-Committee
1. BG Days Update— Everything was successful despite the cold and drizzly weather.
There was a wonderful letter to the Editor from a family in Northbrook who were guests. The
BG Days Committee has requested we provide 2 shuttles even though they didn't always both
get heavy use. The carts were sponsored so it wouldn't be that expensive. Suggestions for
next year include larger, laminated signs for the shuttles and providing handicapped access
further on Church Street around the barricades.
2. Plan Commission — Check List Review—The first draft of checklist was reviewed.
C. Public Info Sub-Committee—No Report
D. N.O.D. Ad-Hoc—No Report
E. Residents Info & Response— Chmn. Kahen reported on the retired couple (Blazevich)
with a transportation problem that he received an e-mail about. A Pace bus was recommended.
F. Goal Setting Ad-Hoc—No Report
G. Business/Community Liaison —There were a couple of responses to the letters sent out
to businesses, expressing interest in attending a commission meeting. Approximately 800
letters were mailed to the Chamber list.
VIL Items for Discussion

Agenda. There was new information about accessible polling places and voting.
