MINUTES OF THE BUFFALO GROVE COMMISSION FOR RESIDENTS WITH DISABILITIES MEETING, APRIL 28,
2004
I. Call to Order-The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.
II. Roll Call -Commissioners present included Chairnan Kahen, Commissioners Sussman, Holm, Morton, Gottlieb and
Verson. Also present was Staff Liaison Summers.
III. Approval of Minutes-A motion to approve the minutes of the 3/24 meeting was made by Commisioner Sussman
and seconded by Commisioner Gottlieb. Motion Carried. Chairman Kahen noted that Staff Liaison Versten had not
yet printed and distributed the FEMA information mentioned in the minutes.
IV .Chairman's Report-Chairman Kahen announced that AIM Printers will sponsor the shuttle for the Art Festival,
covering the rental cost. The golf cart shuttle has been ordered. At next month's meeting Chairman Kahen will have a
schedule available so that Commission members can sign up for time slots.
Chairman Kahen indicated he has not yet received the post cards Amdur Productions was going to supply for the
commission to use to promote the Art Festival preview for persons with disabilities.
The Chairman noted that the Village Board has indicated they may still implement the power-assist doors in the fiscal
year 04/05 budget. The final determination will be made based upon monitoring of the budget for the fiscal year.
Chairman Kahen reported that the surveys distributed with the water bills have started being returned. The
Commission needs to determine what information they would like extracted from the results.
V. Commissioners Reports -Commissioner Sussman asked for an update on the status of the sensitivity brochures.
Commissioner Weiner passed around a typed up version of the brochure and indicated that Staff Liaison Versten was
supposed to prepare the final layout.
Commissioner Gottlieb stated that her and Commissioner Dumrauf manned the booth for the Senior Expo and rapidly
distributed the candy they had available. She indicated that the new venue this year was nicer, provided more room,
and had more adequate parking that the old venue. She suggested that next year's event again be coordinated at the
Arboretum Club. She also suggested that in the future more chairs should be distributed throughout the event for the
seniors.
VI. Sub-Committee Reports - None.
VII. Items for Discussion -Chairman Kahen noted that the Village Grill has indicated that they will contribute to the
Buffalo Grove Days Fun & Food program this year. Chairman Kahen will also contact Weiner Take All to verify if they
are interested in contributing again this year. Commissioner Weiner indicated he can again get 300 water bottles
donated and will look into getting plastic bags donated. Commissioner Verson will contact the RIC Express to
coordinate wheel chair basketball again this year. Goody bags will be prepared at the July 28th meeting.
