Call to Order - Meeting called to order by Chairman Kahen at 1848 hours. IL Roll Call - Rick Kahen, Beverly Sussman, Debby Holm, Debbie Verson, Sue Gottlieb, Geri Miller-Brown, Larry K. Swieca. Guest Brian Rubin III. Approval of Minutes - Minutes of February 23, 2005 approved (motion by Debbie Verson second by Beverly Sussman) Minutes for January 2005 still need to be approved. IV. Chairman's Report - 57th District State Representative called that she would be unable to attend because of illness. Next regularly scheduled CRD meeting is April 27. Because of legislative calendar April 20 may be better. Venue for meeting may change depending on turnout for of residents for this meeting. Senior Expo April 19, 2005 at the Arboretum Clubhouse, 1000 — 1400hrs.Sue Gottlieb & Debby Holm will attend the Expo to represent the CRD. Have brochures to give away—previously were in Phil Versten's office. Checked but unable to find at this time. In the downstairs washrooms the twist knobs have been replaced with sliders. Thanks to Geri from the Commission for her work in setting up the meeting with Rep. Ryg Miracle Field (baseball diamond) is a go. Mike Rylko (BG Park District) says the White Sox are possibly donating $7,500 - $10,000. Dean Klassman is working on a presentation for Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf. There are still some issues with Lake County Stormwater Agency. The field is budgeted for this fiscal year. That would allow it to be ready for opening day in Spring of 2006. Rick will send info to Brian Rubin about the Miracle Field so he can present it to the Village Board. As part of the playground — Need to see about different swings and making it wheelchair accessible including the surface so it is accessible to wheelchairs. Libertyville has W/C accessible min golf Ken Slaw & Dennis Dumrauf have both quit. Commission is now at minimum membership, looking for new members. V. Commissioners Reports - VI. Sub-Committee Reports - Legislative: Sid Mathias is sponsoring HB 0978 in the State Legislature which would allow the AHJ (specifically FD 7 PD to have review and oversight authority on school building projects. (see att'd at end of minutes.) An unfunded mandate. Can go on-line to ILGA.gov go to House Bill or Senate and can look bill up by representative. Lane vs. Tennessee— local courthouse must be ADA compliant or offer other facilities. Business: Beverly Sussman working on Commission brochure. Developing philosophy, mission statement, and goals for businesses. Being assisted by Debbie Verson and Mark Weiner. Community Service and Accessibility:Check to see whether or not the incline on the ramp from the parking lot to the upper level s too steep. VII. Items for Discussion - a. In Lincolnshire the glow-in —the —dark mini golf is not W/C accessible. b. Bank of America- handicapped spots are too far away, they are further away then the non-handicapped. Possibly due to location of curb cuts. C. Rick received 2 phone calls i. Woman looking for an attorney to help set up an IEP. Rick gave her 6 names. ii. New long Grove resident has a son (mid 20's) who plays Special Olympics golf They called Lake County Special Rec District. They were told that Long Grove is not a member of the Special Rec District and their fees would be very high. Suggested the family call Illinois Special Olympics — on-line they have maps which show geographically what programs are available d. Review of 2000 census shows 3755 residents classed as permanently disabled. VIII. Staff Liaison Report - None IX. Questions from the Audience - No audience present X. Other Business - Brian Rubin talked about his Power Point presentation on the Do the Right Thing campaign. Discussion on Terri Schiavo case: Florida does not have a Living Will statute. Medical decision making is done by: Legal Guardian Spouse Adult kids Parents Discussed advisability to enact a Durable Power of Healthcare plus a Living Will if there is no DNR in effect. Removing nutrition or hydration — statute from 1984 — still says the same. Illinois is vague on this aspect of healthcare. Need to specify measures and nutrition. XI.
