Roll Call: Chairman Kahen, Mara Sabath, Beverly Sussman, Sue Gottlieb, Dean Klassman, Geri Miller-Brown, Debbie Verson, Debby Holm, Judy Samuels, Trustees, Rubin & Trilling, Larry K. Swieca. Excused: Mark Weiner & Dave Morton. No minutes from the December 2006 meeting to approve. Chairman's Report Congratulations to Commissioners Holm & Gottlieb on their 15f anniversary. Received bill from Commissioner Sabath for the Commission shirts. To be given to DVM Neukirch Volunteer Reception: February 25, 2007 at the Arboretum. 1:30PM. Commissioners Holm & Gottlieb should be receiving something for their 15ffi anniversary. Handicapped parking at Nino's Pizza on Buffalo Grove Road has been taken care of with the help of Ed Schar at Building & Zoning. Chairman Kahen distributed the 2006 Annual Report that he and liaison Swieca compiled. Discussion followed. Goals for 2007 Distribute the business brochure. Ask for speaker form Medicare's Disabilities Rights Bureau. Possibly work with Representative Kathy Ryg to develop a regional Disabilities Commission. Sponsor a Resource Fair on Labor Day Monday. All agencies, no vendors. (Commissioners Gottlieb, Miller-Brown, Sabath & Samuels will work on organizing this). Will bring up at first BG Days Committee meeting. Side note: Perhaps can suggest to Little City that instead of a busload of residents that it could be expanded into a family outing. Set up an e-mail reservation system for BG Days—Non-residents are also welcome. Still have about 150 goody bags left. Float subcommittee for BG Days. Commissioner Sabath is willing to head up. Send a letter to Trustee Rubin regarding snow in parking spaces. Arts of Life—Expressive Art. Commissioner Weiner will find a contact name to see if they would participate at the BG Art Festival, and/or BG Days. Would like to distribute new disability surveys at BG Days. Commissioner's Reports: Commisioners Miller-Brown & Klassman: Dave Kuryniak is working for Representative Kathy Ryg. They are moving forward on developing a regional commission. They have a tentative meeting date of February 12th 2007. Representative Ryg is also the incoming chairman of the Illinois House of Representatives Disabilities Committee. The previous regional attempt involving Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, Arlington Heights and Schaumburg failed after awhile. Now with a State Representative behind the movement there is a better chance of success. Commissioner Weiner: Website, ArtsofLife.org. This organization is a consortium of disabled artists. Chairman Kahen will call them regarding a display of art on Monday at Buffalo Grove Days. There is a BG Days Committee meeting in February, and Chairman Kahen will bring it up then. It has been informally discussed with Committee members and they seem in favor of it. The art could perhaps also be on display in the Village Hall and police department. Commissioner Miller-Brown: A resident modifies children's books with tactile symbols, and picture symbols. She would like to donate 20 or so to each library, (Indian Trails & Vernon Township) Trustee Reports: Nothing from Trustee Rubin. Trustee Trilling had a question regarding recognition. Also, Trustee Trilling had update information of the BG Art th Festival. It is the 2nd week in July (14 & 15 not the 3�d Sub-Committee Reports: Business Brochure: Beginning to typeset, Committee will proof after the typesetting. Want to send the brochures out to the BG Chamber of Commerce and surrounding ones. Also send to management companies for condos and apartment buildings. Commissioner Sussman is planning on running several thousand copies. Commissioner Miller-Brown: Brought up the suggestion that Secretary of State brochures could be sent out in the same envelope. The Secretary of State will send more brochures but there is a limit on the number form the Attorney General's Office. Will call Representative Ryg to see if we can get more. Need to obtain a list of businesses, through the Village business license records We can also give copies of the brochure to Building & Zoning to distribute when people come in for license renewals. Suggestion to send copies of the brochure to Wheeling and Vernon Township offices. Question from Commissioner Holm. Is it worthwhile to send copies of the brochure to surrounding towns? Consensus was that they would probably be ignored but sending to the Township offices will be useful. Items for Discussion: None Staff Liaison: Commission Webpage.
