VI. Sub-Committee Reports: Business Brochure sub-committee: Distribution of the business brochure is progressing. Items for Discussion: Commissioner Holm brought up a situation regarding the National Honor Society at Stevenson High School (SHS). Students are required to have a 3.9 GPA to be considered for the National Honor Society,(NHS), but for special ed students, the highest GPA possible is 3.75. Commissioner Holm spoke to the principal and received what she thought was a poor answer. That induction into NHS is an honor and if it was open to everyone it would no longer be as big an honor. Commissioner Holm did research and found that NHS by-laws say it is up to the school and district to decide the prerequisites for induction. Commissioner Weiner suggested that Commissioner Holm call Teresa Sullivan at SHS to work as an advocate for the special ed students. Commissioner Holm sent a letter to SHS expressing her opinion and disappointment. She received a call back and was asked if she had talked to the principal. That is where the matter stands at this time. VIII. Staff Liaison Report: None IX.
