Unfortunately, Arts of Life has pulled out of their proposed interactive art demonstration during the Food &Fun event on Labor Day. Chairman Kahen read the letter from Nicholas Schuetzenhofer regarding the Art Festival & BG Days. Chairman Kahen responded to the letter expressing regrets that the relationship won't continue. The Commission received a nice thank you from DVM Neukirch. President Hartstein stated to Chairman Kahen that he had been impressed with the quality of the art from Arts of Life . Chairman Kahen had received a mock up of the BG Days edition of the newsletter and had been able to pull the section regarding Arts of Life at BG Days. Commissioner Verson stated that the Commission should try again for foot& mouth painters for next year. Suggestion was also made from the floor that perhaps Lambs Farm or Little City could be contacted. They might be interested n displaying their wares at either the Art Festival or BG Days. PSM fundraiser/auction. Arts ofLife is scheduled to be there with 6 artists and possibly 50-60 pieces of artwork for the auction. Guest Donna Garfield suggested that the Center for Enriched Living might be interested in being involved in BG Days. Chairman Kahen explained the Monday Food &Fun activities to guest Donna Garfield. She stated that if the cost of supplies could be covered by the Commission, then the Center might be able to provide some interactive projects. Ms. Garfield will coordinate with Commissioner Weiner. The Village reprinted some of the older brochures regarding the Commission, with updates. Chairman Kahen had called Claim Jumpers restaurant regarding parking. No response as of yet. V. Commissioner's Reports: Commissioner Miller—Brown: Brought copies of some of the books that were donated to the Vernon Library as part of their "Leap into Literacy"program. These are the special Picture Symbol books that are handmade. Vernon is actively promoting the books. Commissioner Miller-Brown was given the number for Indian Trails Library District Treasurer Walter Salganik. Asked about the possibility of donating some of the books to the school districts in town. Commissioner Klassman: Kevin Sullivan, a BG resident brought it to Commissioner Klassman's attention that there are no curb cuts at the bridge (over the creek), from Lake—Cook Road into the Town Center. Individuals who are in a wheelchair are forced to go into the street when crossing the bridge. Chairman Kahen has brought this matter to the attention of both DVM Neukirch and Ed Schar from Building & Zoning. They feel the Village has no legal footing, writing a letter and public pressure may be successful. Question from Commissioner Verson regarding the number of curb cuts in the Town Center. Number appears to be adequate except for the bridge. Commissioner Verson expressed her appreciation of the diligence of the Arts Commission members and volunteers during the Art Festival in checking the plates of vehicles parking in the handicapped spots. VI. Sub-Committee Reports: None Items for Discussion: BG Days: Chairman Kahen brought a spreadsheet for driving the courtesy shuttle. The Commission has confirmed food from village sources for soda, water, chicken, frozen custard, chips, etc. Sponsors will be noted at BG Days on Monday. Someone from the Commission will need to pick up the cases of soda from the Dominick's on Rte 22 & BG Rd on Sunday and half the water from Jewel on Sunday (Buddy Baseball), and half on Monday. Still have close to 200 goodybags left so we do not have to assemble any this year. Commissioner Sabath will need assistance in getting the bags to the carnival on Monday. She was also able to obtain little first aid kits, glow-in-the-dark Halloween goody bags, and coloring books and crayons. All volunteers for Monday will need to be there by 0900hrs for setup and registration. The Village is setting up 847-808-5555 Prompt#4 for RSVP for Monday of BG Days Buddy Baseball Update: DVM Neukirch has sent out an e-mail asking for volunteers as Buddies for the game on Sunday. State Rep. Ryg has expressed her desire to be a Buddy again. Also a good response from the Fire Department for Buddies. NWSRA will donate a 14 passenger bus & driver. The Village will have to pay the driver his hourly wage. BUDDY BASEBALL FOR BUFFALO GROVE DAYS Sunday September 2nd @ 3pm Twin Creek Park, - Aptakisic Rd just West of Buffalo Grove Rd. Insurance has been amended for both days C. Shuttle & Driver are both available either day D. Buddy availability on Monday not known yet Discussion that next year the game could be scheduled for Saturday so that Sunday could be the rain date. Commissioner Gottlieb concerned that with the carnival and Buddy Baseball that might be too long of a day for the participants. However, Commissioner Massman stated that there is not much overlap between the two events. Not many of the players attend the carnival. Commissioner Klassman will need 2-3 people to help with set up of the sound/announcing system. Commissioner Sabath will order the Buddy T-shirts. Lou Malnati's will sponsor& donate pizza for the Buddy Baseball game. 1-2 volunteers will be needed at the entrance of the park to tell people where to go. Suggestions on who could throw out the first pitch; perhaps President Hartstein & DVM Neukirch. Perhaps also ask Seth the BGFD MDA representative. Commissioner Gottlieb's neighbor will be asked to sing the national Anthem Commissioner Morton will explore the possibility of transmitting live image from site to the Municipal Campus with the assistance of MobileComm. VIII. Staff Liaison Report: Battalion Chief Swieca discussed the national movement towards having a Special Needs Advisory Panel that would consult on Emergency Preparedness Plans. Especially important would be evacuation and sheltering plans, communication plans, (to notify ALL residents of the Village), and distributing medications to the homebound in the event of a Strategic national Stockpile deployment. He thought that perhaps this could be a part of State Representative Ryg's regional Disabilities Commission plan. B/C Swieca has submitted designs for shuttle signs to PW. IX.
