I. Welcome &Call to Order
The meeting began at 7:00 pm.
II. Welcome State Representative Carol Sente
Representative Sente indicated that she manages a special needs advisory committee. Everyone is
invited to the next meeting on Monday, 9/26/2011, 6:30 pm at the Laschen House, 294 Evergreen in
Vernon Hills. The group promotes the resources available to individuals with special needs and their
families and explores new programs that should be considered for the area.
Representative Sente indicated that she is coordinating a meeting to discuss ComEd on 8/30 at 6:30
pm at the Vernon Area Public Library.

Commissioners provided an overview of ro rams and activities that the �
have conducted as part of the mission of the CRD. Commissioner Sussman „t ; d
discussed the initiative of the Village working with shopping centers in the
community and recommending that they voluntarily install "Stop for >
Pedestrians in the crosswalk" signs similar to the sign noted herein.
Commissioner Sussman suggested to Representative Sente that this state
law should apply to private shopping center crosswalks.
III. Approval of Minutes
a. 6/22/2011. The minutes were not available for distribution. No action was taken.
b. 7/27/2011. Motion to approve by Morton, second by Klassman.

IV. Chair Report— Rick Kahen
a. Rick requested that Commissioners describe the role of the commission and the projects
that have been undertaken.
b. Rick reported that October is Disability Awareness Month. A Proclamation will be
presented to President Braiman and the Board for their consideration at the second
meeting in October.
V. Commissioner Reports
No other reports
VI. Disability Awareness Month, October—Courtney Weisman
a. A program is planned to learn about current disability policy and community issues with
Robin Jones. The event will be October 26, 2011 at 7:00 pm, at Village Hall. Robin Jones is
the Director of the Great Lakes ADA and Accessible IT Center and Instructor at the
University of Illinois at Chicago.
b. Flyer—Courtney drafted a flyer and will email to the Commission and Ghida Neukirch. The
flyer and information about the program will be promoted on all communication media
including but not limited to web site, BGTV, e-news, and press. Ghida will make the flyer
into a poster for promotion at BG Days.
VII. Buffalo Grove Days— Rick Kahen
a. Shuttle schedule sign-up. Rick provided the schedule of drivers for BG Days. Mara stated
that a glow stick is placed at every golf cart. The glow stick should be broken and waved if
emergency assistance is needed. Instructions in this regard will be placed on each cart.
b. Buddy Baseball Exhibition Game. Dean reported that there are 41 players. A total of 19
volunteers have signed up with the Village thus far. Rick and Dean stated that there are
other volunteers so every player should have a "buddy". Mara distributed volunteer
Buddy Baseball t-shirts for all commission members.
C. Fun & Food Program. Rick read the schedule of events for Fun & Food.
d. Parade float— Mara reported the individuals who will be on the float and participating in
the parade, and those will be helping disassemble the float. Deb reported that
individuals interested in helping to build the float should meet on Tuesday and
Wednesday, August 30 and 31 starting at 5:30 pm. Volunteers should meet at the storage
site at 1577 Barclay Boulevard, Rogers Centre of Commerce. The theme of the float is
"Fun and Food"; there will be a ticket booth, horse, carousal, picnic table, and other"fun"
decorations. The parade starts at 1 pm. Individuals volunteering to be on the float
should meet no later than 12:30 pm. The float has been assigned to Zone B, formation
32A at Indian Hill, north of Bernard.
