MINUTES
The meeting of the Village's Civic Involvement and Recognition Commission was
called to order by Chair Ungerleider at 7:00 p.m. Those in attendance were:
Harvey Ungerleider Bill Brimm
Monyca Flack DeAnn Glover
Betty Lou Manso Bruce Kahn
Zill Khan Dick Oliver
Approval of Minutes-July 12, 2001:
The minutes were distributed for review. There were no changes and, it was
motioned Kahn, seconded by Ungerleider to approve same. Motion was approved
unanimously.
Chairman's Report:
A discussion was initiated based upon an e-mail sent to the Chair by Scott
Cutler. Its subject matter centered around activities of the Commission to
date, why there have not been any tangible work products and whether this
Commission should continue at all beyond its assumed trial date, which at
present is assumed to be April 30, 2002 . Each commissioner was asked to comment
on their own thoughts about the activities or objectives of the Commission.
Some expressed surprise that the Commission was authorized for another year.
Generally, all expressed an theme that nothing seems to be working, nothing is
getting done.
The discussion shifted toward the Commission taking a greater role in developing
programs centered around volunteerism and involvement rather than recognition.
It was suggested that an objective of the Commission would be to act as an
agent to bring together volunteer organizations in their efforts to encourage
volunteerism and to efficiently seek out those with need to match with those
that want to help.
Discussion-Volunteerism and Involvement:
Based on the above comments and the desire to change directions, members agreed
to redefine the role of the commission with an aim toward volunteerism. In
addition, external reporting and information efforts would be targeted toward
advertising about opportunities and encouragement in areas of volunteerism
giving people a chance to volunteer. To accomplish this, it was understood
that all efforts must start with finding those groups that at times need
assistance and them finding those that want to help.
To do this, two sub-committees were formed, one to determine a strategy of
identifying need with the second to establish a match strategy for 11 haves" .
These groups will form and begin to develop a work product.
Other Business:
There was no other business.
Next Meeting Date:
The next meeting of the Commission will be Thursday, November 8, 2001 at 7:00
p.m. in the Village Hall.
Respectively Submitted,
William H. Brimm
