The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM.
Chairman's Report:
Mo announced that the Vendor Meeting will be in the chamber building tonight.
Troy Shannon from the Fire Department and Peggy from the Police Department will discuss
safety issues and will provide the permits.
Steve Panitch addressed the group, stating that important information regarding safety, power,
and food regulations would be given out tonight. There are 31 vendors this year, both
restaurants and not for profits.
Phil Kanoles, the Grand Marshal for the parade, was introduced.
The food tickets for the committee members will be yellow.
Mo stated that the meeting on August 20 will be in the chamber building, due to a conflict with
other meetings.
Mo stated that this is the final call for any items for the Village Newsletter.
Mo also announced that Steve Panitch is leaving the area, and moving to Sarasota, Florida.
There will be a farewell party for Steve.
Mo stated that the posters for the festival have been received and to pick some up to distribute
throughout the village.
Police: Jim Newton: - no report
Park District: Ryan Risinger—not present
Parade: Joe Tenerelli -
Joe stated that 40 parade entry applications have been returned.
Joe stated that he has shirts if anyone needs any.
Mobile Com: Roger Remblake - not present
Fun and Food: Rick Kahen -
Rick stated that the Goodie Bags are done. They have Frisbees, hats, toys, and water bottles
The Park District has portable backboards for the Wheelchair basketball game, which will be
played at noon on Monday. Rick gave Chantal the press release for the Wheelchair Basketball
group.
Other than that, Rick stated that he was good to go.
Fire Department: Troy Shannon—no report
Public Works; Ray Rigsby -
The trailer for the entertainers has been ordered.
The Porta-Potties have been ordered.
He is presently working with waste management on garbage pick up.
He is also working on the buses, with the routes being the same as last year.
We may have a new generator company this year.
Karen stated that she needs power foe the street entertainment. Ray asked that she get back to
him on how much powder, that it would not be a problem.
Doug stated that he needs power at the beer tent stage, which Ray indicated that it has been
ordered.
Ray stated that the Big Board is ready to go.
Ray stated that he needs a list of supporters for the banner. Rick Kahen said that he will e-mail
his information to Ray. Rick requested a big sign stating a private party for Monday for the
Fun and Food to place on the barricade. Ray stated that the signs are in the back of the truck
bolted to the barricades and ready to go. They are in the pickup truck set aside for the BG
Days Committee. Dean has keys to the truck. JV will also have keys for the truck.
Trustee Liaison: DeAnn Glover—no report
Chamber: Steve Panitch-
Steve stated that there are 16 restaurants this year.
Everything has been approved. We have 3 restaurants for Thursday and 7 restaurants for
Monday.
Mo stated that we need hot dogs for Monday since there will be a lot of families attending at
that time.
Food Tent: Tom Johns —not present
Tom will be out of town for 10 days and hopes to be here for the Festival. He has been
priming JV as his assistant so things should go OK.
Arts and Crafts: Nikki Lee/Glenda Hoelting -
Nikki stated that she has 30 crafters in, and she is hoping to get 10 more by the time of the
festival.
Mo asked about the Children's Craft Fair she proposed at the last meeting. Nikki stated that is
was for kids under the age of 16 to have their own little area for crafts. Nikki stated for the
first year, they can sell anything, not just crafts, but they would not be allowed to sell baseball
cards or stuffed animals. Next year Nikki would hold the kids to strictly arts and craft items
Carnival: Paulette Greenberg - Not present
Jane stated that Paulette called her with her report as Paulette could not come to the meeting.
Paulette stated that she called the Pioneer Press and spoke with Michele Hurwitz, who writes a
column every other week. Michele promised that she would write up the need for vendors for
the Children's Expo for next week and two weeks later, write up the need for volunteers for
the ticket booth. Paulette states she presently has 7 vendors, and she is negotiating with 3-4
more, but has no money from them.
In regards to the carnival, Paulette stated that the Ferris Wheel will be back, as will the
Carousel. There will be a bunch of thrill rides, including the Starship 3000, Cliffhanger, Mega
Drop, Double Shock, a new ride, and Tilt-a-World. For kids rides, they will include the
Construction Zone and Speedway.
Chantal has gotten articles in the Herald for getting more vendors for the Children's Expo.
She has also gotten an article in Herald in regards to a need for tickets sellers.
Mo will instruct Paulette to call the senior center for volunteers in selling tickets.
Entertainment: Karen Danenberg -
Karen stated that we need volunteers to wear the cartoon character costumes.
Karen stated that the Jetson's characters will use local talent.
The rest of the entertainment is ready to go.
Karen stated that information packets go out this week to the entertainers.
She has passes for the windshields.
Karen stated that she came to Village Hall last Friday and was able to proofread the final copy
for the newsletter.
Karen stated that she was lucky to proofread the copy as it went to press on Thursday, and
they were able to stop the printing until she finished her proofreading and make her
corrections. Sara was concerned that she never got to see the final copy. Steve stated that
Lynn at the Chamber office did see and proofread the copy.
Karen stated that Doug is her co-chairman for entertainment.
Karen also stated that if any committee members have nothing to do, to go back stage to help.
Rick also stated that he always needs help with the handicap shuttle carts.
Fund Raisin: Sara Herman -
Sara states that she continues to get donations.
Sara states that we will know who the sponsor for the children's main stage act will be soon.
She stated that she is still taking donations for Friends of the Festival and encouraged
committee members to donate to Friends of the Festival.
Steve stated that there was also an opportunity to sponsor a sleeve of cups for $25 and there
would be a large beer stein sign indicating the donation.
Publicity: Chantal Davidson -
Chantal stated that she has sent everything to the Herald that she has gotten thus far. Mo
stated that she and Chantal had lunch with the person from the Herald who will put the insert
together. This is the person who designs the insert, sell the ads, and fills in the insert with
articles. Mo stated that last year's articles were recyclable, so would be used again this year in
the insert.
Mo stated that there is a freelance writer who is working on an article on BG Days but needs
to get information. She will put an article together if we feed her the information.
The Herald articles and insert are not completed yet so we still have a little time.
Mo stated that what is in the newsletter is up to date. They gave copies of the Buffalo Grove
newsletter articles to the Herald.
Mo stated that the ads are going to come out on August 21 and August 22, each ad will be
3x10 1/2 inch.
On August 26, there will be one 3x7 inch ad that we pay for. The next day, the insert comes
out.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:20.
