The meeting was called to order at 7:08 PM.
Chairman's Report:
JV thanked everyone for coming tonight. He said that we are T minus 30 days and counting to
the festival. JV stated that at this time, all the major stuff is in place.
Police: Mike Millett-
Mike stated that everything is coming along well. He will meet with Jim to finalize the parking
passes.
Mike stated that the staffing is finalized and will be posted by Friday. He has some signage
issues and will talk to Dave tomorrow about them. Mike states that he wants to threaten
violators with towing for parking in the block from St. Mary's Parkway north on Raupp to the
carnival. That area has been designated for resident only parking. Mike wished to have signage
to threaten with a tow if people do not adhere to the policy and then actually tow the vehicles.
Mike stated that the gang crime unit says it has been a quiet summer. He does not feel that there
will be a problem at the festival with gangs.
JV asked if the police department could provide portable signage regarding more expected traffic
and travel along Lake Cook Road before the festival. Mike stated that they will use the smart
trailer. The state and county are picky about signage on their roads. JV wants to slow down
traffic, due to pedestrians and buses present during the festival.
Ron asked if he could talk to IDOT about putting up signage stating to slow down, pedestrians
crossing ahead. Mike said that is it is easy to ask IDOT for the signage. It is just hard to get
permission back from IDOT to do so.
Park District: Terri Ebner—
Terri has no report. Terri confirmed that the Park District will not be bringing in the climbing
wall. Terri asked if there are any questions. No one had any.
Parade: Joe Tenerelli -
Joe stated that he mailed out 125 applications for the parade and has gotten 50 back. He states
that he will have the usual rush right before the deadline date. Two new entries this year include
the Hershey Kiss Mobile and the Shriners, who are bringing a 3/4 scale self propelled plane. We
will have the navy band f6rc2 consecutive years. JV stated we will take care of them Joe also
said that we have an oriental band from the Shriners who will participate. The new Buffalo
Grove Bank will be entering a float.
He is still looking for transportation for the Grand Marshals. He said that he may have to settle
for a convertible. Other than that, things are going along well.
JV was asked who will be the Grand Marshal. Joe replied that is will be co-marshals, Joan and
Ernie Karge.
Joe stated that on Sunday morning, he will need marshals for the parade. He will need the
people by 10:30, but he will deal with that later. He said that he will need marshals to get stakes
in the ground along the parade route.
Mobile Com: Roger Remblake -Not present
Fun and Food: Rick Kahen -
Rick stated that he is all set. In regards to the wheelchair basketball game, they will start with a
'/z hour clinic with anyone who wants to be involved. Then the RIC express will play the
trustees. Then we will bring in special somewhere between 12:30. JV asked if it will be in the
same place as last year. Rick said yes. Rick said that he has already checked into getting the
baskets and that is set.
Rick hopes to start the lunch later to keep the people around longer.
The shuttles are all signed up. All set everything is go. JV stated anyone new on the committee
should come on Monday at 11 and be ready to fill the food boxes together. Rick will tell
Outback Steakhouses to have the food ready at 11:00. He is considering putting the hot dogs in
last minute to make sure they are warm. Mo stated that we have a lot of committee members
who know what to do so filling the boxes should not be a problem.
Jackie will be there to hand out the goodie bags.
Mo asked about ice cream this year. Last year, they served left over ice cream from the VIP
party and it went over well. Rick will look into it with Culver's this year. Sara stated that
Culvers is giving it to the committee for the VIP party. They may be willing to give it to the Fun
and Food program.

Chamber: Sara Herman—
Sara stated that the Business Fair is full and has a waiting list of 3 to get in.
She has a restaurant for which she needs approval. Jill from the Park District wished to bring
their cart. They want to serve hot dogs, chips and candy bars on Thursday. We have only Little
Italian and BG Cycle and Ice Cream Emporium for that night. Chicago Classics had to back out.
Karen asked if they could serve over at the Teen Stage Friday and Saturday, so that there would
be food over there. Sara will check. The committee voted that Jillie's is in.
Corporate Sponsorship Sara Herman—
Sara stated that they continue with fund raising.
JV reminded everyone that if you want to be a Friend of the Festival, to give a check to Sara,
made out to the Village of Buffalo Grove. Sara requested that people write in the memo area
what you want the big board to say in regards to the donation.
Steve asked how many food vendors the Chamber had for the Food Tent. Sara stated that she
has 16, plus she is waiting on 1 approval for 17.
Food Tent: Steve Shultz -
Steve stated that one of the not-for-profits dropped out. The JCYS with a pickle on a stick had to
drop out due to lack of volunteers.
He contacted the Knights of Columbus of Buffalo Grove, who will sell kettle corn.
August 16 is the vendor meeting. The Business Fair meeting is at 6 and the restaurants meeting
is at 7. Both meetings will be at the chamber office.
Steve needs to know as he would like to send out notices to not-for-profit people regarding the
meeting.
Setup/Take down: —
JV said that the same volunteers as last time will be there for this committee. Tom stated that
everyone is on this sub committee.
JV reminded everyone that help is needed on Thursday night after bingo to rearrange the Food
Tent.
Arts and Crafts: Jim Pawlak/Joan Pawlak-
Jim states that they have over 60 right now, but he does not have a precise count.
Today, he was still negotiating with Build a Bear crafter, who comes and makes all sorts of
animals, including Teddy bears. The crafter needs electrical power and is still working on a
generator. He says that this vendor will be a big draw. JV stated to talk to Dave about power.
He said that the vendor can get power if they are a good vendor.
Jim is still working with Mike about parking permits. Jim is making 100 entertainment permits.
He asked how many will be needed for the village officials. DeAnn said actually everyone gets
parking permits.
Dessert Challenge: Paulette Greenberg -
Paulette stated that the Dessert Challenge is going to happen. She has 2 entrants already. It will
be for any kind of dessert. Restrictions include no cream or custard desserts due to heat and
weather conditions. Chocolate may melt so contestants take their chances. The committee
cannot store any of the desserts. The churches, synagogues, and grocery stores, all have flyers
posted. Ads have been in the Daily Herald and the Countryside papers.
Applications for the contest are available at Village hall and on the web site.
Carnival: Paulette Greenberg -
Paulette stated that the pre sale tickets are being dropped off tomorrow.
Karen asked about the Tilt-a-Whirl ride. Paulette stated that it is going to the Schaumberg
festival this year. Paulette stated that we are getting 2 more fast rides this year for a total of 5.
These rides include the Ring of Fire, Pharaoh's ride, and the Graviton.
Paulette said that Sandy wanted to know one more time if we have anyone selling sub
sandwiches at the Food Tent. The carnival wishes to serve sub sandwiches. Sara said yes there
are 2 vendors. Sandy's request was denied.
Paulette reminded everyone that they are expected to work at the ticket booth at the carnival
during the weekend. Anyone who has no assignment is expected to do a 2 hour shift. Paulette
stated that this is where the money is made during the festival. She reminded everyone that the
booth is air conditioned. She will have a sign up list tonight and on subsequent meeting nights.
Entertainment: Karen Danenberg—
BG Idol rehearsals begin tomorrow night. Karen said that she had 23 entrants for the contest.
From the 23, she has chosen 7. Everyone is a winner. They range in age from 10 to 17 years
old.
Karen wanted to review the men from the committee she will be asking for help.
They include Ken, Ron, Dan, Chuck and Hal.
Doug said that Dan is with AV. Karen stated that AV is part of entertainment.
Ken is doing Teen stage.
Karen stated that she wanted David behind the Main stage this year.
Karen now has one band on Sunday night over at the Village Green and they have offered their
own sound system. They will play from 8 to 9:10. They are called Salt and Silver. Doug stated
that the band is also graciously allowing us to use their sound system for the fireworks music.
Audio/Visual: Doug Primack/Adam Moodhe—
Doug stated that there is no update for him. Adam has nothing new. Doug stated that we have
permission from Carmen, at the golf course, who is allowing the committee to put up speakers
for sound during the fireworks.
Publicity: Perini Jess -
Penni stated that we have a newsletter and have maps to go with it. They are currently being
printed. The newsletter will be going out on schedule. She e-mailed to the Daily Herald in time
about their fun insert. All information is correct.
Penni stated that she will be going back to school next week. She will be here for the festival.

Glow Necklaces: Lori Hackett-Not present
VIP Party: Sharan Tash-Misholum—Not present
Sara Herman stated everything is progressing well. They have many food donors so far. Sharan
may need volunteers to pick up the food. She is using a theme of Putting on the Glitz. The
Northwestern duo is to sing cabaret songs during the party. Karen stated that there is a band in
the Beer Tent that is piped into the party. Adam said it is easier not to have to run cable to the
VIP party and let them have their own music.
Information Booth: Ken Lazar—Not present

JV stated that we have 4 meetings left. The 30th meeting is a big elaborate party. Everyone is to
leave $5 at the door. DeAnn has made arrangements for the party already.
Rick asked about getting extra water for the Fun and Food, from same vendor as the one
providing water for the VIP party. Pam did the same thing last year. Mo requested that
Hinckley and Schmitt be asked since they will be there at the festival. Rick needs the water on
the carnival side for the Fund and Food program.
Jim stated that he still needs drivers for the Arts and Crafts van. All he needs is a copy of the
driver's license, front and back.
Ron made a motion to adjourn. Adam seconded the motion.
