JV stated that today is the 9th. We start on the first of September and we are getting close.
We have three more meetings before the festival.
Police: Mike Millett-
Mike stated that they are working on the parking permits. The Smart Trailer will be posted on
the bridge near the creek, west of Raupp, with signage, for east bound traffic. He will change the
signage from last year for Raupp from St. Mary's Parkway to the carnival and will tow
offenders. He plans on using the signs and a tow truck there only. He wants to use the
manpower on the campus complex. Each resident along the indicated area on Raupp gets two
parking permits. That is how it was handled last year and there ere no problems with the
residents having enough permits.
Mike has the parking permits for the committee members. JV wants to hold on handing them out
until next week. Mike stated that next week is the meeting for restaurants and the business fair
will be next week at the chamber office, which he will be attending. He will not be at the
committee meeting to distribute the permits. Mike will give the permits to Jane for distribution
next week.
Karen asked about parking for businesses at the Town Center. Specifically, she was concerned
about the parking for employees behind the businesses. Mike stated that that area is private
property and there is no plan to police the area. He feels it will be a problem only on Sunday
night when there is entertainment at the Rotary Green.
Mike will be working with George for staging for the parade.
Mike said that other than that, we are going along and everything is going well.
Park District: Terri Ebner—
No report
Terri stated that the Park District is working on a unique float this year.
Parade: Joe Tenerelli -Not present
Ken stated that Joe told him that the Navy band has cancelled. They got a better offer. He has
received 60 applicants so far. We will have a Dixieland band on the fire truck.
Mobile Com: Roger Remblake -Not present
Fun and Food: Rick Kahen -
Rick stated that Culver's is coming, bringing their cart and employees. A mascot will also be
there. Allis set.
Fire Department: George Michehl
George said that the Fire Department is going to participating with static education and public
displays this year. They will not have a fire trunk this year. They will not have the fire pole.
They will have a camper with fire safety equipment to display.
They are not bringing Sparky the dog, to his knowledge. The camper will be manned 8 hours
each on Saturday and Sunday. It will be there by 10 AM on Saturday. They wish to park it in
the Public Works driveway off of Raupp. This is the driveway at the west entrance to Public
Works, where we park the golf carts each night. George said that they may need power for the
camper. JV said that there should be an outlet somewhere in that area. If not, we will pull
power from the pubic works building. George said the Fire Department felt that there is a need
for more public education and that is the reason for the camper.
George said that they are trying to trying to staff and equip a more appropriate EMS golf cart.
They need a flat bed cart to carry resuscitation and basic life support equipment.
The EMS people on bikes will be there.
George said that he received a request for a permit from Melrose Pyrotechnics and George will
approve the permit.
In regards to the parade, he has been discussing coordination strategies with Mike and the Chief.
George said that he will need a golf cart the day of the fireworks.
George will be here on Thursday and Friday to look at the carnival and the Food Tent.
The Fire Department will supply the committee with 4 fire extinguishers.
George stated that there was some concern about the deep fryers on uneven ground in back of the
tents. Since they cannot cook under the tent, the restaurants have no other choice but to cook in
back of the Food Tent. JV stated that they may want to dig a 6 inch hole for the legs of the deep
fryers to level them. George will discuss possibilities with Dave.

Chamber: Sara Herman—Not present

of nuns who want to have a booth, but they want the $125 fee waived. They wish to sell hand
painted acrylic paintings. They are raising money for food for their soup kitchen. Pam made a
motion to allow the fee to be waived. Mary seconded the motion. No vote was taken. JV said
that he was leery at giving away a booth. Karen asked whether Jim had a photo of the paintings.
Jim said no. JV instructed Jim to request pictures of their paintings. JV wished to table the
decision and the committee vote until we can see picture of the works. It is a consideration that
we could charge them a discounted rate as we do the not-for-profits at the Food Tent. JV also
stated that he doubts the booth will be free. We need a sample and pricing of the paintings.
Pam feels that we should allow not-for-profits in the craft fair at a discounted rate for the booths
and limit the number of not-for-profits booths.
JV complimented Jim and Joan on a job well done for their first year.
Dessert Challenge: Paulette Greenberg -Not present
Paulette sent her report to Jane Primack.
There are 3 contestants signed up for the contest as of today. Jane Olson reported that one

the woman may have to rethink the chocolate if it is hot.
Jane checked all the grocery stores and updated the deadline date and replaced applications as
needed.
Carnival: Paulette Greenberg—Not present
Paulette e-mailed her report to Jane. Sandy from Astro e-mailed Paulette stating that she had
seen an article in the paper about a new ordinance that there would be no smoking on Park
District property. Sandy was questioning how it will be addressed during the festival.
Mike stated that there was a staff meeting this past Thursday and the police will not be the
enforcers of the new ordinance. Terri will find out how the Park District plans on handling this
during the festival and get back to us at the next meeting. Mike stated again, that enforcement of
the ordinance was not been decided yet.
Paulette also wanted everyone to know that everyone is expected to work in the ticket booth at
the carnival during the weekend. The shifts are 2 hours in an air conditioned booth. That is
where the money is made during the festival. Jane has the sign up sheet for people to sign up
