Chairman's Report: JV Springman/Paulette Greenberg Paulette stated that JV is on his way here. Paulette said that tonight, she has the draft of the newsletter. She wants everyone to double check the spelling of their names. She said that this year, they have new photos in the newsletter. She has two color copies with her. This is everyone's last chance to make any corrections. The Publicity committee will have one last chance to read the final draft before it gets sent to the .printer August 4. It will be in the houses the week of August 14rh. Paulette stated that that we need to find a new cleaning company. No one contact Carlos. His business and cell phones have been disconnected. The Village has new contract cleaning company. Paulette will talk to them about the festival. Police: Mike Millett- Mike stated that he has concerns about previous year's beer sales of a 6 beer per person limit. The police see these same people sitting down with 14 and 15 year olds at their table. Other festivals limit beer sales to 2 beers per person. Mike brought the subject up earlier in the season and it was tabled for later discussion. He wanted to revisit the discussion, suggesting a change of practice. It will make it easier to monitor sales in the dark. He suggests the chamber stop giving out the trays, and limit sales to what they can carry. Paulette said she will to Lynn about it. Mike had some concerns about the carnival. The carnival is at state fair now. In the past, the state police have run the history of each employee of the carnival. In the time between the state fair and BG Days, Sandy has always given the names of any new hires to Mike so he can run a history on them. He is requesting the new guy, Ed, to give him the names of new hires. Mike stated that the scheduling is done, and officers are being given their assignments. Park District: Terri Ebner— The BG Idol contest is on schedule with 20 people signed up. The autumn brochure just went out and all residents should have received it. Doug asked about sound requirement of BG Idol. Teri will find out. Parade: Joe Tenerelli/Ken Lazar - Joe said that they have no grand marshal sponsor. Lasalle Bank was purchased by Bank of America. He is still working on it. Joe has received 45 applications. He always has a last minute rush of applications. The marine band will be in. Joe said the costs for the parade are increasing and he has had to spend more. Joe wants 10 committee members for the parade. Mobile Com: Roger Remblake - Roger is not present. Fun and Food: Rick Kahen/Mo Welborn - Rick has no report. He is all set for now. Fire Department: George Michehl - George is not present but e-mailed his report to Jane He stated that the Fire Department will be participating in its usual areas of public education on Saturday and Sunday along with the supervision of the fireworks display on Sunday evening. They have scheduled volunteers to assist in the Grilling Challenge. If there are any significant changes in the carnival set up, he will need to know about that so he can pass it along to Building and Zoning. The battalion chief has made all of the arrangements for paramedic standbys. George stated that he will be at next week's meeting to answer any questions. Public Works: Dave Haisma/Brett Robinson - Dave was not present. Trustee Liaison: DeAnn Glover— DeAnn has no report. Chamber/Corporate Sponsorship: Scott Fishkin/Sharon Feld— Sharon and Scott were not present. Food Tent: Steve Schultz/Sandi Carothers - Steve stated he is ready to go. He asked and it was confirmed that the vendor meeting is August 12, with 6:00 being the Business Fair meeting and 7:00 the food vendors. He also asked that the committee food tickets be made up in time for the meeting so he can show them to the vendors. Setup/Take down: Steve Antman— Steve said that everything is on schedule. He has everything he needs and is ready to go. Arts and Crafts: Jim Pawlak/Joan Pawlak - Jim stated that they have 45 to 46 booths filled. He stated that he needs van drivers. He said if anyone even vaguely thinks that they may drive the van, he will need a copy front and back of your driver's license. I Paulette stated that there are two vans reserved. Dessert Challenge: Jane Primack/Joan Pawlak - Jane stated that she met with Marie from Chocolate Marvels about the award this year. It will be some type of mug for the adults and ice cream dish for the kids. She has only received one additional application since the last meeting for a total of 4 applications. Grilling Challenge: Chuck Posniak/Ken Carothers Chuck has no report. He has not received a lot of applicants for the contest this year. He has lost the Weber gift certificates as prizes. He contacted the Fire Department, who will be making up 4 baskets as prizes. The Fire Department will also be supplying judges for the contest. Carnival: Debra Jess/Penni Jess - Debra stated that the parade will be on the big posters this year. Debra stated that the carnival would like to use the Metra train parking lot for their semi trucks. They used it last year and it worked well for them. She was told to give Bill Brimm a call. She hopes to have the posters available for the next Chamber meeting, which is the second Tuesday of the month. She has the sign up sheet for the different times available to work at the ticket booth for the weekend. Penni and Debra will do the start up for the ticket booth for Sunday since that is a slow time Dave had said no problem with the water for the new ride. Entertainment: Karen Danenberg— Karen stated that she has Lucy and Groucho walking around during the festival. For the VIP party, she has booked a band called Ragtops from 6:00 to 7:30 in beer tent The music will be piped into the VIP tent for the party. Audio/Visual: Doug Primack/Adam Moodhe— Doug stated that he is pretty much set. They want to turn the beer tent stage around again this year, not set at an angle. Last year, the PA system sat partially outside. He wants to move the tables away from the back side of the beer tent, leaving a small walkway and put the stage there. Paulette will talk o the chamber about it. Publicity: Lori Hackett/Dan Olbur Lori stated they are going through the final draft for corrections before it goes to printer August 4 h They are completing the final touch ups. She is also working on an ad for the Pioneer Press. Photography: Hal Norman/Jim Pawlak - Jim has no report. Glow Necklaces: Lori Hackett- Lori stated that everything is ordered and all set. They will be selling necklaces only. VIP Party: Sara Ciolli/Arlene Kozemzak— Arlene stated she was happy to get the music piped in, as she was unable to get the lip sync group. Arlene stated that she has no idea how much food has been donated. Walmart would have donated last year but was not contacted. They requested to be contacted in July. Arlene has not heard from the chamber. The theme colors will be pink and black The beginning of August, she will have a sign up sheet for set up, serving during the party, picking donated food and clean up. Information Booth: Ken Lazar— Ken was not present. Iceman:Ron Jess - : Paulette stated everything has bee taken care of. BG Juniors: Rhonda Norman - Rhonda stated that she has gotten a good response from last year's Juniors. 14 have already contacted her to volunteer again this year. She feels that she will not need a waiting list for this year. Village Liaison: Bill Brimm— Bill was not present but e-mailed his report to Jane. Bill has been busy and unable to attend meeting. He will be here for the entire weekend, as usual. He will be at the remaining meetings in August. Your 2 Cents Worth: All committee members Paulette stated that Dave from public works needs people to ride buses to do questionnaires regarding the bus service, the rides, and the bus drivers. He wants to know if all of the stops are worthwhile. Paulette is looking for people who do not have assignments to do the questionnaires, one route for the Lake County side and one route for the Cook County side, afternoon and evening, Saturday and Sunday. Paulette stated that you only have to do the route once. If you make her angry, she will make you do it 3 times. A comment was made about the candy company, who sold the 50's candy at the sock hop be brought back to sell the candy at the festival. Paulette stated they would have to join the chamber to do so. She said that they could get an entry for the parade and throw candy. JV stated that on Wednesday, August 27rh is the softball game, Thursday night is bingo and the carnival starts. JV reminded everyone to be there around 11:00 to the switch the Bingo tent into the Food tent. Murray asked about using an electric lawn blower to clean up the garbage after bingo. He said that we can clean the entire tent in 20 minutes instead of 2 hours using the leaf blowers. JV stated he has one and probably Public Works will have some. He will check into it. Debra commented that the show case in the front lobby has an old carnival poster that does not have a year on it. She is concerned that people may think the poster is for this year. It has 1956 prices and dates on it. Arlene asked about shirts this year. Paulette is working on special shirts for Sunday, the blue ones that are out in the hall. Jane asked that if anyone else wants to include their cell number on the roster, give it to her tonight. She will have hard copies available next meeting. Jane also asked about a craft tent for kids for the Sunday block party. She talked about the craft tent at the Art Fair in July and what a hit it was with the kids. Jane was told to call Ghida about it. We have an available tent to use and set up on the field for Sunday. Steve made a motion to adjourn. Murray seconded the motion.
