Chairman's Report: JV Springman/Paulette Greenberg JV stated that we are one month beyond the first meeting. He is happy that we have a full house tonight. JV stated that we have guests and new members attending tonight. JV introduced the new members, Dan Peterson, Mark Katz, Randi Orlov, and two new people who walked in tonight to sign up, Dianna and Cody Bartlett. Two other new members, Jing O'Brian and Andrew Dienkelman were unable to attend Bill Raysa, the Village attorney, spoke about the new resolution passed last night at the Village Board meeting of the code of behavior and conduct for village elected and appointed officials for the Village of Buffalo Grove. He also reviewed the amended ordinance of the municipal code for state officials and employees' ethics act of the Village of Buffalo Grove, also passed last night at the Village Board meeting. JV stated that year after year, we have the same people coming back. For that, he feels blessed and thanks everyone for returning. JV stated that Bill Brimm Village Manager has announced his retirement. JV stated that we will have a void with his leaving the Village and our committee. He is ethical, good at his job and a friend. Bill thanked everyone for what we do. He said that this is his 33d year with the Village, but he will return as a volunteer after he retires. It has been fun working on the committee and with all the members. Paulette has a request for the return of the Dessert Challenge. Someone who won contest in previous years wishes to sponsor the event. Paulette stated that her thought for the event returning would be to run the contest with only one kind of dessert. Jane agreed to return as chair for the Dessert Challenge. Police: Roy Bethge— JV announced that Roy got policeman of the year award last night at the Village Board meeting. Roy stated that he appreciates being back again this year. He said that he learned a lot and has recommendations that he will talk about with JV and Paulette at a later time. He said that there will be parking permit changes this year, and there are some safety concerns. Park District: Terri Ebner— JV stated that Teri does a great job representing the Park District, which runs the BG Idol and the Sunday fun run. Teri stated that she is happy to be back again this year and she has no report. Parade: Ken Lazar/Lee Orlov/Murray Sprung. Rodney Odelson - JV announced that a number of committee members have volunteered to work on the Parade sub committee. Ken Lazar will now head the sub committee. Paulette instructed Ken that someone must get together with Jane Olson in the Village Hall office regarding what is expected of them. Paulette informed them that they will have a budget. Mobile Com: Roger Remblake - Roger was not present. Fun and Food: Rick Kahen/Mo Welborn - Buddy Baseball is booked for September 4th at 4:00, with a rain date for the next date. Rick stated that there were over 500 attendees last year, the biggest crowd ever. Rick stated that he is looking for contents for about 250 goodie bags. They went through everything they had last year. JV stated that many other communities are coming to observe and talk with Rick about the Fun and Food program to repeat it in their own communities. Fire Department: George Michehl— George was not present. Public Works: Dave Haisma/Brett Robinson— Dave was not present. JV reminded everyone that we cannot run the festival without the Public Works department. Trustee Liaison: DeAnn Glover— JV stated that we have been lucky to have DeAnn reappointed as the Board representative on the committee. DeAnn welcomed everyone back. She said that we have the best committee and job in the Village. We get to put on a party for 50,000 people. She said that we will have a great year again this year. Chamber/Corporate Sponsorship: Sharon Feld/Scott Fishkin— JV reminded everyone that the Chamber runs the Food Tent, the Beer Tent, and the Business Fair. They are also responsible for corporate sponsorship. Sharon stated that they are inviting all the restaurants back from last year, and will be sending out the letter for sponsorships for the festival. Betty Lou stated that she will need a sponsor for the Kid's Craft Tent this year as she will be running it three days instead of two. Sponsorship with banners is being considered in the Beer Tent. Food Tent: Sandi Carothers/Steve and Mari Antman - JV stated that Sandi Carothers, Steve and Mari Antman have agreed to co-chair the Food Tent since Steve Schultz is not returning. Paulette stated that we have the contract for Indestructo, who supplies our tents and they came in with the same prices, with a 29% discount. It was decided that we get the fans again this year. Paulette stated that one other company is putting in a bid for the tents. Setup/Take down: Steve Antman— Steve will still be taking care of set up and take up. Arts and Crafts: Jim Pawlak/Joan Pawlak - Jim stated, when asked, that this is their 6th year Co-chairing the Arts and Crafts. Jim said that they sent out the application other day and have received one back. There was a consideration in increasing the application fee, but due to the economy, they decided against it. Jim stated that he will be discussing the parking situation with Paulette and JV. There definitely a parking problem and he may need a second van this year. It was suggested that we use increased signage for authorized parking this year. Van Man: Eric Gordon Eric stated that he still will do the vans. Kids Craft Tent:Betty Lou Manso/Debi Moritz JV announced that the Kid's Craft Tent has been expanded to three days due to its popularity. Betty Lou said that she needs sponsorship for the event, now that there will be the three days of the tent. She said that the little pots were a big success last year. She said that Mery Leider will look for anything else he can donate, or we can order it from him at cost. Grill Challenge: Chuck Posniak/Murray Sprung Chuck stated that he is planning on having it again this year. He said that every year it gets bigger and he is almost at capacity now. Carnival: Debra Jess/Penni Jess - Debra stated that the three year contract with Astro was up this year and they interviewed several vendors. As a result of those interviews, Astro will back for three more years. We will also have new fast rides this year. Debra stated that since we must watch the budget, she has noted that lots of tickets go to the volunteers for the committee, such as the BG Juniors and the Boy Scouts. She said that we will be watched very closely this year and we need to control how many free tickets are given out to the volunteers who help the committee. Entertainment: Karen Danenberg— Karen stated that we have not had a big change in the entertainment in a long time. As a result, on Saturday and Sunday, we will have the BG Palooza party for the teens. This is an out door event. She has already spoken to the Police and they are good with it. Karen stated that it will have a stage and it will have sponsorship that it will pay for it. Her son, Michael, who just graduated in Marketing, will head it up the sponsorship for the event. Karen stated that they already have 5 sponsors for the event. It will run on Saturday starting at 1:00 and ending at 7:00. Sunday, the event will start after the parade around 2:30 and end at 7:00. There will be a check in station for the teens, manned by the police and committee members for controlling the entering and leaving the site, checking all bags and purses. The even will be in the daylight hours. Karen stated that she has received multiple requests from teens and parents for some kind of venue for the teens. There will be 5 bands on Saturday and 5 on Sunday. They will have limited food vendors available. Karen stated that the BG Idol contest is gone. Karen said that the only band booked is American English on Saturday. She has a signed contract. She has the same budget as last year and she hopes to come in under budget. She will try to keep the bands down and will look for those willing to play for free. Audio/Visual: Doug Primack/Adam Moodhe— Doug stated that we will have sound. He doesn't have any report. Adam stated the contract for the staging is back in. Any additional staging will be done with risers. He said that whatever the risers we had last year, we will need to double that for this year. Publicity: Lori Hackett Lori has no report. Karen stated that there is a website, listing festivals in the area, at www.festine.com. She will upload BG Days festival information on it. Photography: Hal Norman/Jim Pawlak - Jim stated that they took over 4200 pictures last year. Jim stated that last year's slide show will be available on DVD next meeting. Glow Necklaces: Lori Hackett- Lori stated that considering how they did last year, she is thinking about getting another product, such as a glow ball or frisbee, just something different. She is looking into something that is no more than a dollar. VIP Party: Arlene Kozemzak/Pam Soracco — JV stated that Arlene will not be returning as chair. Pam has agreed to chair this committee. Pam was not present. JV stated that we changed t the VIP Party last year to a wine and cheese event. They had a huge turnout. He will entertain any ideas for the party this year. Thoughts have included a back stage pass to meet and greet the performers and shake hands with them. Information Booth: Ken Lazar— Ken stated that he will continue being chair person of the booth. He will have an assistant, Janee, who will help out if needed this year. Iceman: Ron Jess — Ron stated that he will he will get the same amount of ice and freezer as last year. He will get prices to present to the committee. BG Juniors: Rhonda Norman - Rhonda stated that Annie Orlov will be around this year, as will her daughter to help with the Juniors. Debi stated that the Kids Craft Tent wants at least 2 Junior volunteers each day. Village Liaison: Bill Brimm— Bill has no report. Your 2 Cents Worth: All committee members Debi stated that she is on the Environmental Action Team. They want to make the festival greener. One suggestion they have is to place a bike rack on campus to allow people to use their bikes as transportation to the festival. She said that the Team would be responsible for policing the area. It was suggested that we dedicate the festival this year to Bill Brimm. Jane stated that she is going green in regards to paper to the committee. The minutes, as the last few years, will be e-mailed, but the roster will be e-mailed also. There will be no hard copies of the roster at meetings. She is still considering what might be done about the agenda for the meeting. JV thanked everyone for coming, and the next meeting will be in April. Paulette stated that the entertainment committee has a new e-mail address, bgdaysentertainmentggmail.com. There will be no more mailing from Karen. Everything will be e-mailed out to the entertainment people Ron made a motion to adjourn. Rodney seconded the motion.
