Healthy Kids: Lori Hackett/Mari Antman
Lori would like to create a new program for BG Days this year called Healthy Kids. She is
looking to promote a healthy way of life for kids as this is the message from Michelle Obama's
campaign.
She would like to use this as a fund raiser for Juvenile Diabetes. She would also work with the
police in teaching kids how to call 911. Rhonda stated that Safety Town teaches that also, and
that they have a special phone they use. Rhonda suggested Lori get in touch with Valerie at the
Park District about that.
Lori wants to get a pediatrician in to talk about healthy ways of exercising and eating right.
Another activity would be to take a child's blood pressure and then have them run around and
retake the blood pressure again to show kids how exercise changes their blood pressure.
She would like to:
• Have a karate/Tae Kwon Do demonstration.
• get Northwest Community Hospital in to talk about Juvenile Diabetes.
• get a pharmacist in to talk about medications for Juvenile Diabetes.
• have tables along the fence on the field on Sunday afternoon after the parade.
• She has approached Trader Joe's about giving a food demonstration about healthy eating.
She is looking for that demonstration to be only 15 minutes. The entire program would
run from 2:30 to 4:30.
• get CVS Pharmacy and Dick's Sporting involved also.
• She would like to set up a parent child relay race, such as a wheel barrel race with a gift
certificate or back pack as the prize.
She will continue to develop this in the next few months. Penni questioned if this is a fund raiser
for Juvenile Diabetes and if so, would this open future problems with other charities wanting to
do fund raisers at the festival. Lori stated that the basic concept would be a Children's Health
Fair.
Village Liaison: Bill Brimm—
Bill has no report.

Marc also wanted to thank to JV for his humor and leadership during the meetings and the
festival.
