Commissioners Absent: Commissioner Wigodner, Also Present: Peggy Starczowski , Health Inspector. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of the July meeting were approved. New Business: a. The activity report for the month of August was discussed. b. The community flu shots will be given on Saturday October 24`h at Village Hall. This will not include the HIN1 virus. Swine flu was discussed among commissioners. OLD BUSINESS: The CFL bulb recycling program, the Sharps and Prescription Drug Disposal Programs were reported on. The Police Department will be holding a drug awareness seminar at BGHS on October 7. Health and Wellness Fair: Community Health fair was discussed and given that last years was such a success it's recommended that we have it again. It was recommended that maybe we should have it earlier in the year. Bicycle Helmet Safety Initiative: The commissioners feel it is important to promote the bicycle helmets. Commissioner Goldberg has done research previously and found good helmets that could be purchased at a cost of about$5. These could be given out or sold at the bike rodeo and maybe even the health fair. Commissioner Loeb suggested that the kids that go to the rodeo probably already have helmets. Staff Liaison Starczowski suggested that maybe it could be used to attract other kids to the rodeo. All the commissioners thought it would be a good idea to get involved with the bicycle helmet safety initiative. Commissioner Loeb will contact the Police Department representative Officer Rodriguez to discuss their involvement. While the Board of Health would like to see it become a law, they are aware that a lot can be done through education. Meeting Frequency: Commissioner Loeb asked if it was possible to change the frequency of the meetings to every other month. Discussion ensued among members and the consensus was that meetings every other month would be adequate, and if need be we could meet more often. Staff Liaison Starczowski will check with the Health Officer and the Village managers' office to see if it is possible. ANNOUNCEMETS: The next regularly scheduled meeting is October 15, at 7:30 PM. ADJOURNMENT: The Meeting was adjourned at 8:15 PM. Respectfully Submitted, Peggy Starczowski, Health Inspector
