Office, St. Mary's Church and School, Belmont Village, and neighboring single and multi-family residential
properties.
ART RECOMMENDATION /NOTES
Greg Summers provided an overview of the ART submission in a memorandum dated March 11, 2004.
Summers addressed several issues that were recommended for discussion with the petitioner.
Responses to the inquiries are detailed as follows.
Commissioner Bccek noted the following comments in an e-mail submission dated 3/16/200 :
1) The backlit sign is very nice, although there was concern it would not be legible from the street.
2) The two half columns on the east elevation should be reviewed. Consideration was requested to
make this area larger to get two full size columns.
3) Identify the depth dimension of the columns from the east elevation compared to the rest of the
building. Concern was expressed that the columns might appear to be a flat limestone piece.
Overall, the Team agreed that the proposal was very good.
Materials
Samples of the proposed brick, limestone, and spandrel panel material were provided by the petitioner.
The brick and limestone building derives its style from other buildings proximate to the location. The
combination of materials was well suited for the building and the surrounding area.
Several limestone pilasters were proposed along the east elevation of the building. A review ofthe
three-dimensional drawing and posterboard of the proposed plan identified appropriate offsets primarily
between the pillars and the building wall.
Signs
The bank name on the building is proposed to be individual anodized bronze metal letters mounted on
limestone. The letters are proposed tobe back lit. The bank name io proposed tobe featured onthe
north and east elevations. |t was agreed that the name of the bank would be visible from the roadway.
The monument sign io proposed tobe18' in length and 5'1O" inheight. the letters are proposed tobe
carved into limestone panels and painted black with in-ground lighting. The monument sign io well done
and no recommendations for modifications were noted.
The monument sign is well placed at the intersection of Buffalo Grove Road and Old Checker Road.
Garden wall
The proposed Garden wall was reviewed by the group. It was agreed that the brick infi||to match the
bank building was aesthetically pleasing. Stone caps are proposed on each stone pier. |t was discussed
that the iron panel at the north end of the property was for increased driver visibility
The height ofthe fence ot approximately 5'11 3/4"vvoo appropriate.
DurnpsierEnc|osuma
The dumpoterio proposed to be brick to match the building with ovvood door and metal reinforcements.
There were no changes recommended for the dumpoterenclosure.
Lighting
4" Round steplytes were proposed for the garden wall; Bollard, 9" cast aluminum lighting proposed for the
walkway, in ground lighting proposed for the monument sign, flag pole and building pilasters, and
hexagonal 42" lanterns proposed for the exterior of the building. |t was recommended that more
decorative fixtures beconsidered rather than the pole lighting proposed, CSConoounse || by McGraw
Edison. The petitioner agreed that a decorative fixture would be more appropriate if they could find such
o fixture that also still provided for cutoffs to ovoid light spill over the property line.
RECOMMENDATION
The Team agreed that the proposed plans were well designed and is recommended for approval as
presented.
