PRESENT ON BEHALF OF SHELL/ MCDONALD'S

Lynn Williams-Miller, Regional Real Estate Manager, McDonalds
George Maurides, Attorney at Law
Laura Sawicki, Area Real Estate Manager, Shell Oil Products

The purpose of the meeting was to review proposed color changes. Ms. Neukirch advised of the proper
procedure to request the color change. An amendment to the Annexation Agreement is required, which
includes a public hearing. Petitioners were advised that they can proceed with their request at the Village
Board level.
It was proposed to change the roof color on the main building to Terra Cotta, change the wall color to
Malted Milk with accent trim to match the roof color, and for the car wash building to remain white.
At the Village's request, Mr. Kelley advised that the car wash building can be changed to Malted Milk to
match the main building. The red Car Wash sign would remain.
Mr. Maurides stated that when the site was proposed, the Military Blue roof blended with the sky. Now
that the landscaping has matured, they want the colors to be more earthtone to match the surrounding
area to the west and south. The Terra Cotta roof color would be a better match.
Ms. Neukirch asked to reduce the number colors being proposed. Currently the four colors being
proposed have no consistency.
Trustee Glover advised that the Shell in Lincolnshire was painted white and red. Mr. Maurides responded
that the Lincolnshire site is a more urban area. This site was supposed to be an urban area with
commercial uses to the south. That changed and currently residential uses are to the south. The
landscaping on this site has matured and Shell/McDonalds has a beautifully landscaped site which has
an earthtone feel. The background is trees. The Terra Cotta creates a softer look and blends better with
the existing landscaping. A photograph of a McDonalds building located in Oswego with the Terra Cotta
roof and Malted Milk walls was presented. A color paint sample of the Malted Milk was presented, a color
paint sample of the trim was presented, and a sample of the roof material and color was presented
Trustee Glover suggested that asphalt shingles be used for the roof material instead of a metal roof to
soften the appearance of the building. This modification was agreed to by Shell and McDonald's
representatives.
Mr. Entman suggested that the red and yellow band be eliminated from the building facade because the
colors do not blend well with the proposed Malted Milk color for the building. This proposed modification
was agreed to by the representatives.
Mr. Maurides said that Shell/McDonald's wants to proceed with Village Board consideration of the color
changes at the September 12, 2005 meeting. Shell/McDonald's will submit the required exhibits,
including specifications concerning manufacturers and product numbers for the proposed materials and
colors by Monday, August 29.
Based on Mr. Maurides' representation concerning submittal of the required exhibits, Mr. Balling said that
the Village would schedule the public hearing concerning the annexation agreement amendment for the
September 12, 2005 Village Board agenda.
ART recommends approval based on the following modifications:
The roof should be changed from metal to asphalt shingles to match as closely as possible to the Terra
Cotta color.
Eliminate the white fascia and red and yellow bands on the main building.
The car wash building to be Malted Milk color with no accent trim.
Eliminate the red and yellow band on the main building and replace with illuminated red "Food Mart"
lettering. Also provide illuminated red "Car Wash" lettering on the car wash building change from six
inch high letters to nine inch high letters.
For the submittal, the petitioner shall provide colored renderings depicting the existing elevations and
signs (renderings or actual photos permitted), and proposed elevations; 27 copies are needed for the
submittal.
A sample board will be provided to the Village no later than Monday, August 29, 2005.
