2008-06-26 - Appearance Review Team - Minutes Board or Commission: ❑Appearance Review Team Document Type: ❑Agenda 0 Minutes Meeting Date: 06/26/2008 Type of Meeting: ❑ Regular Meeting ART (Appearance Review Team) Meeting JUNE 26, 2008 MIMEXICO, 220 MILWAUKEE AVENUE PROPOSED EXTERIOR COLOR CHANGE PRESENT Ghida Neukirch, Deputy Village Manager Robert Pfeil, Village Planner Edward Schar, Building Commissioner Louis Windecker, Zoning Board of Appeals Commissioner DeAnn Glover, Village Trustee Juan Barajas, MiMexico Antonio Amador, MiMexico PROPOSAL Mr. Amador explained that he would like to change the exterior color of the building. He has two restaurants; one in Bellingham, Washington and one in O'Fallen, Missouri. They are closing the location in O'Fallen and will be relocating here to the former Weber Grill Restaurant site. They are proposing to paint the exterior of the building with Behr Awning Red S-H-180 and the trim with Behr Ultra Pure White 1850. The consensus of the ART is that the proposed Awning Red is too much to be used on the entire building. The red would be acceptable as an accent color. Ms. Neukirch asked if earth tone colors were considered. Mr. Amador explained that he would like the restaurant to look like a hacienda. Ms. Neukirch added that the proposed colors are not consistent with the surrounding area. Mr. Amador stated that they would like to have the building painted before they open. Mr. Pfeil asked about the anticipated opening date. Mr. Amador stated that they should be ready to open in two (2) weeks. Ms. Neukirch and Mr. Pfeil agree that the Awning Red could be used as an accent color. It was recommended that a warmer tone be considered rather than the proposed Ultra Pure White. Several different color samples should be submitted for review by the ART. It was confirmed that the roof shingles will remain as they exist. Mr. Amador is not aware of connection to the Village's water and sewer system. Mr. Amador should speak with Brian Sheehan concerning the wells. Questions concerning the single family residence located on the site were addressed. The current tenant is planning to use the single family residence. A letter needs to be submitted to the Village for approval from the Village Board concerning the use of that single family residence. It was confirmed that the other building on the site will not be used and will be kept secure. RECOMMENDATION The Appearance Review Team does not recommend approval of the proposed exterior color change and recommends the following: 1. Several different color samples to be submitted for review for both the building and the trim. 2. Follow up on all outstanding code compliance items to be completed. 3. A letter concerning the use of the single family residence on the site must be submitted to the Village. Once these items have been addressed, a subsequent review can be conducted.
