ART (Appearance Review Team) Meeting
FEBRUARY 14, 2011
100 MCHENRY ROAD, VERSAILLES
PROPOSED VESTIBULE ADDITION
PRESENT
Ghida Neukirch, Deputy Village Manager
Brian Sheehan, Deputy Building Commissioner/Operations
Carol Berman, Deputy Building Commissioner/Administration
Robert Pfeil, Village Planner
Joe Wallace, Plan Examiner
PROPOSAL
Request is being made by Versailles, 100 McHenry Road, to construct a vestibule at the entrance of the
Pavilion Restaurant.
Mrs. Berman advised that the Village does have the landlord approval from Mr. Mark Brennan,
Edgemark Asset Management, for this proposal. Versailles would like to utilize the private dining area
and make the separate restaurant more visible.
Mrs. Neukirch asked if the Fire Department will have any egress issues with the proposal for two (2)
doors. Mr. Sheehan does not believe that the two doors in series is a code issue as long as distance
requirements are met (this was verified with DFC Michehl). The doors are fairly far apart from each
other. Mr. Wallace added that spaces with more than three thousand (3,000)square feet must have two
(2)doors as part of the Energy Code.
Mr. Pfeil asked if the Fire Department will look at the plans as part of the plan review process. Mr.
Sheehan advised that Fire will review the plans.
Mrs. Berman stated that she does not have any issues with the proposal. Mr. Sheehan also doe not have
any issues as it appears that they are trying to match the existing building construction.
Mr. Sheehan stated that there appears to be a second gate on the outdoor seating area closest to the
Pavilion entrance. He does not recall if the second gate exists currently. He will go out to the site and
verify. (Note: Site visit revealed that there is currently only a gate on the east side of the fence. The
owner was not present— it was requested that the owner contact the Village to discuss this issue) If the
business is contemplating adding the second gate the gate will have to have the appropriate alarm
installed.
There were no additional questions or comments.
RECOMMENDATION
The ART has determined that the appearance of the vestibule as proposed meets the criteria set forth in
the Village of Buffalo Grove Appearance Plan, is in harmony with the building and is compatible with the
surrounding area subject to the following:
1. Materials to match the existing construction in like kind and quality; and
2. Verification of the second gate and required alarm.
